Video PHYs Simplify Complex Professional Design Requirements

Cypress Semiconductor has launched a new family of physical layer devices (PHYs).

The HOTLink-On-Demand family of devices is believed to be the largest and most flexible portfolio of Society of Motion Pictures and Television Engineers (SMPTE) standards- compliant PHYs on the market.

Building on the success of the HOTLink II (the world's first quad independent channel video SERDES) the HOTLink-On-Demand portfolio of twelve devices provides designers with scalability and flexibility in their professional video equipment designs, including production switchers, distribution amplifiers, D/A and A/D converters, and camera control units.

All of the devices are designed so that each channel can run at either SMPTE 259M or SMPTE 292M speeds. In addition, all devices feature an integrated voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) and phase-lock loop (PLL), as well as an innovative chip design that eliminates channel crosstalk and performs significantly better than the SMPTE jitter specification. The portfolio also includes devices that allow one channel to be a transmitter and another, an independent reclocking deserialiser, which proves particularly useful in up/down converter applications.

Meanwhile, Cypress Semiconductor demonstrated SERDES video platform at International Broadcasters Conference held at Amsterdam RAI Convention Center in the Netherlands, August 10-14.
