THE DATAI, LANGKAWI

The Datai, situated on the north-western tip of the pristine island of Langkawi, provides an idyllic natural retreat within the depths of a 550 million year old virgin rainforest. Its immense variety including tricky uphill and downhill lies, undulating in some places, flat in others, with bunkers, water hazards and jungle all combine to provide the ultimate golfing challenge on this course situated on the legendary island of Langkawi.

Par is well earned at Datai on the narrow fairways where the jungle seems to attract your shots. Altogether a refreshing golfing experience, to savour. The fairways are covered with Bermuda Tifway and Tifdwarf for the greens.

Datai Bay offers plenty of challenges and on some holes, par is well earned. Don't allow yourself to be mesmerized by the sheer beauty of the course and its surroundings for full concentration is vital for success.

The Golf Club Datai Bay has established itself as one of the "Top Ten" golf course in Malaysia. The unique feature of the course which acclaimed admiration form the foreign and local golfers is a perfect hideaway between the mountain and the sea.

CARCOSA SERI NEGARA

In 1896, Sir Frank started constructing his official residence above the Lake Gardens. This was Carcosa, probably a stylization of the Italian cara cosa or "dear place".

In 1904, Sir Frank moved to Carcosa, at the same time finishing a building called "King's House" on an adjacent hillside. King's House, today Seri Negara (which means "beautiful country"), was to house the Governor of the Straits Settlements as well as other illustrious guests of the Malay Federation.

From 1904 until the 1941 Japanese invasion of Malaysia, Carcosa was the official residence of the highest British representative to the Malay States.

Today, Carcosa is one of the leading hotels with its manicured lawns and the lake gardens, show a part of Malaysia which seemingly can never change.
