A hurricane recently hit the United States. And there was an earthquake on the East Coast, a region usually untouched by quakes because of its geological characteristics. These natural disasters took place not long after Japan was hit by a huge earthquake whose magnitude nearly reached 9.0. As the whole globe is suffering from natural disasters, advanced countries are clearly making efforts to overcome such global threats - by means of environmentalism and self-sufficiency. Some of the leading European countries including Germany and France have already achieved 100 percent food self-sufficiency. The mass production of one particular foodstuff such as coffee and oranges in contemporary agriculture can lead to a situation where a spread of a single type of pest can result in enormous damage to crops. These countries have been preparing, aware of the unreliability of the current food supply system. We cannot go back to the agricultural era, nevertheless. How can Korea, then, respond to this issue

Siver Tray

Raising Seedling Tray modernizes agriculture with cutting-edge technology

Raising seedling refers to an agricultural technique to grow rice seedlings on a seedbed or nursery for breeding of crops, and raise these seedlings after replanting them in the ground. In the early days after establishment, Bumnong invested 1.4 billion won in research and development alone to focus on developing high quality seedling box design to grow stronger seedlings, and the company is also participating every year in SIEMSTA and TAMAS, professional agricultural material exhibitions sponsored by Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. In addition, Bumnong has continuously conducted researches in collaboration with academic institutions such as the Department of Facility Horticulture of Gyeongsang University and Gangreung Univeristy, while developing the company's unique protruding tray and taking over 60 percent of the raising seedling tray market share. Their products have been recognized abroad as well, allowing the company to expand its market to even Japan where raising seedling technology is highly advanced.

Multi-functional tray with added features

Bumnong has been researching and developing trays with various added features. Fibroot Plug Tray, for example, demonstrates nearly 100 percent of seedling emergence rate as it prevents the root from winding during seedling raising process and radically increases the root, which enables the seedlings to quickly take root after replantation. Also, the product allows rice plants to grow stronger and more consistent as well as quickly grow and multiply.
When the root of crops touches the inside of Fibroot Plug Tray, the tray restrains the growth of the root and radically increases the number of rootlets by the dominance of basal plate. The augmentation of rootlets and restraint of the formation of root ball create by winding roots facilitate transplanting and also improve the plant's nutrition and hence resistance against unusual weathers and other adverse conditions. Especially, transplanting crops that have poorly developed rootlets can help 20-50% increase of crops in bad conditions. Also, even when the sales or growth of the plants are delayed, the tray helps with not only raise the income of the farms but also reduce wasting resources as it postpones the aging process of seedlings.

Bumnong Co., Ltd. has been awarded the KOTRA Seal of Excellence since 2009.
