PLK Technologies on mission to break bad cycle of traffic accidents

Car manufacturers never stop designing and rolling out new vehicles on the road. And an increasing number of people, out of curiosity in part and for their needs, buy and drive them. Look at a city where all road networks are wrestling with traffic congestion, overcrowded with countless cars and disturbed by deafening noises.  Also coming along are horrible car accidents that not only hurt victims but make the victims' families suffer.  After all, they wreck people's lives and threaten society to some degree, and our government is busy with introducing another similar traffic policy that accomplishes little or nothing. But now it looks like the unfortunate cycle will soon be broken with help from one innovative company.

PLK Technologies (www.plk.co.kr) did not burst onto the scene but started as an internal corporate venture belonging to Hyundai Motor Company in 2000. Two years later came the independence of a new start on their business. Until now the company has created various products like the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), LDWS with a Video Event Data Recorder (VEDR), VEDR Roadscan, VEDR Roadscan PRO, and VEDR "Roadscan FX." These PLK items are based on image recognition, detecting any vehicles, road signs, and vehicle headlights in front or behind, and they also come with the extra functions of front collision warning system, high beam assist, and traffic sign recognition.

PLK's VERD and LDWS

VERD Roadscan FX is equipped with a 2.4" color LCD that allows a user to check on recorded images in real time. The device has a built-in camera that functions as a portable camera and camcorder. When an accident occurs, its detection mode is on and starts recording the scene, the time of the accident, and the vehicle's 3-axis acceleration data. Its internal battery that lasts up to 50 minutes helps Roadscan FX performs without any external power support.

Roadscan DTW can work as a security mechanism that triggers at three different points of a car. For example, if someone opens a car trunk or door, DTW automatically begins recording. Also, its manager function can send data via WiFi without pulling out the SD card.

Roadscape LX looks like a long egg or tiny rat with small built-in camera in the middle. Its rear side has four blinking blue and green lamps that indicate each correlated status. Simply, it is an advanced safety system with features such as Forward Collision Warning that calculates the expected time of collision based on the speed and distance of a vehicle going ahead, a Lane Departure Warning that can help a driver stay in the lane with LED lights and a warning sound, a High Beam Assistant that gives a driver high beams if there is no vehicle in front, and low beams if any coming or going vehicle ahead is detected. Finally, Beep & Watch reacts to the movements of any front vehicle.

PLK Technology has been awarded the KOTRA Seal of Excellence since 2009.
