KES 2011 : Korea Electronic Show 2011 Opens to the Theme of ‘Be smart!’

KES2011, SEOUL, KOREA — This years Korea Electronic Show 2011 (KES 2011) being held at Kintex in Ilsan, Gyeongi Province over four days from October 12 through the 15, is bigger than ever, showing a 5% growth from last year. More than 800 companies including Samsung, LG, Mach, Hynix, Redrover, Korea Taiyo Yuden are attending. The theme of KES 2011 is 'Be SMArt!', and new smart electronics, software, and components are being introduced in seven categories, telecommunication/multimedia, household electronics, software mobile convergence, digital broadcasting components, a 3D expo, IT convergence, advanced IT component modules, and semiconductor displays. In addition to electronics; new designs, contents, and distribution solutions are also being exhibited.

This year Korea's major companies, LG and Samsung, are highlighting "Smart" devices and displaying new 3D consumer technology. Samsung is emphasizing their new concept, "Smart Life", introducing new products such as a smart vacuum cleaner, 'Smart Tango' and a washing machine, "Bubble Shot", both of which can be controlled by smart devices such as phones, tablets, and TVs. While Samsung focuses more on the smart life, the LG booth is filled with 3D displays. Visitors can play 3D games on a huge 370-inch screen. Not to be left out of the home appliance market, LG is introducing a smart refrigerator capable of online shopping.

Vice Minister of the Knowledge Economy and the Vice Governor of Gyunggi Province gave awards to IT leaders.

Samsung Electro-mechanics, Korea Taiyo-yuden, and Redrover are introducing new products that cannot be missed. Samsung Electro-mechanics is showing various smartphone components, LCD TVs, and LED back-light LCD technology. Redrover is displaying stereoscopic 3D production technology while Korea Taiyo Yuden is showing various wireless communication devices and components.

On opening day, Yun, Jong-yong, the chairman of Korea Electronics Association, Yoon Sang-jick, the vice minister of Knowledge and Economy, and Kim, Young-hwan, the chairman of Knowledge Economy Committee were in attendance.

"Currently, the IT industry is exploring 'convergent service of IT telecom-broadcasting' and 'green IT technology'. This is the change that global IT companies need to focus on. Intangible intellectual properties are becoming the core of business management", said Yun, Jong-yong, "I hope KES 2011 will be a valuable arena for information and technology sharing among IT companies."

"The IT industry counts for 2/3 of the Korean industry. Even with the global economic slow down, the Korean IT industry has accomplished a 20% growth," said Yoon Sang-jick, "The government considers the IT industry as the key to becoming a more advanced country."

"After the 1960s, Korean industrial modernization was lead by the automotive, shipbuilding, steel and IT industries," said Kim, Young-hwan. "by strengthening software and component industries, Korea will generate new IT industries capable of advancing to the next level in a global market."

At this year's event, visitors can experience many new products, technologies,and fun events.There is also a 'KES Exhibition App', which provides social networking, a company directory, buyer conference requests, the exhibition schedule, and much more. Also, by using QR codes, exhibitors and visitors maintain two way communication.
