3D is hot! International visitors eager to discover what new products Korea had to display this year, packed booths exhibiting 3D technology. Whether it was displays, software, games, or cameras they were intrigued about the potential of the new products. Guests from backgrounds as diverse as Hollywood guys scouting new production technology, to Russian businessmen interested in applying 3D technology to improve the reliability of electric power grids were in attendance.
IT times spoke with Gary Carter of Melrose Mac, who provides Apple based production environments for major film makers, having worked with such companies as Sony on "Spiderman," is searching for innovative 3D production technology suitable for the professional market. "I am getting more an more calls for 3D rigs, and right now there is no dominant player in the market," Gary said. " I am interested to see what Korean companies are thinking outside of the consumer market."
Two attendees were researching 3D products such as displays and software to integrate into electric power grid monitoring systems. Ray Blankenship, an American, mentioned that every second a grid was down, it cost millions of dollars in lost revenue. He hopes the introduction of 3D cut help monitors better prevent or more quickly respond to failures of the grid. Alexy Savonekov from the Russian firm Modern Technology of Power Generation Technology of Russia also interested in offering clients innovative solutions to enhance the operation of their power.
