KES 2011 - Samsung, LG Show off New Smart Electronics

October 13, 2011-- The Korea Electronics Show 2011 (KES 2011), the biggest electronics show in Korea, is being held at KINTEX from Oct. 12~16. The theme of this year’s event is “Be smArt!” emphasizing smart electronics and appliances with unique design. Two electronic giants, Samsung and LG, introduced several new electronic products with smart features at the show. Both companies offered new LTE smartphones with faster processors and bigger screens that can be used to control many other electronics including TVs and household appliances. However, the highlight of the show is the bigger and smarter displays that cover most of the floor.

Samsung Galaxy S2 HD LTE
Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE

The best selling android platform smartphone just got better. Samsung displayed two new LTE smartphones at the KES 2011, Galaxy S2 LTE and Galaxy S2 HD LTE. Galaxy S2 LTE features dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, 4.5’ super AMOLED Plus display with 800x480 resolution, 8-megapixel camera, full-HD playback, 16 GB internal memory, and 1,850 mAh battery. Galaxy S2 LTE is currently available on SKT only. For non-SKT users, Galaxy S2 HD LTE will be available soon for all carriers. The upcoming Galaxy S2 HD LTE was displayed behind the glass on the floor. The bigger brother of Galaxy S2 LTE has same features except the larger 4.65 inch HD super AMOLED screen with 1280x720 resolution.

World’s first 75" Premium Smart TV with LED panel

At the center of Samsung booth, world’s first 75-inch LED panel TV was placed to catch visitors’ attention. The 3D Full HD/Smart TV has a built-in wifi, capable of web-browsing and skype calls. Also, the 3D hyper real engine delivers more realistic 3D experience for viewers.

Slate-type high performance Window 7 notebook

For the growing tablet market, Samsung introduced 11.6-inch window based tablet PC called slate PC. The device has 2nd generation Core i5 processor, 4G RAM, 64GB SSD, and window 7 OS with touch launcher.The thickness of the slate PC is 12.9 mm weighing 860 gram. Unlike other tablet PCs with prioritized apps, pc environment is offered on the device. The docking station and digitizer pen are also provided.

Cinema Full line-up with FPR 3D type

LG booth has full line-up of FPR 3D type displays from computer monitors to large screen TVs at the show. 72’ Full LED Cinema 3D Smart TV and several smaller 3D TVs at the display corner showed bright and crisp 3D pictures for visitors to enjoy.With one set of 3d glasses, visitors can enjoy 3D experience from any LG display section of the booth, showing advantage of FRP type displays.

LG introduced a new set of glass-free 3D display at the show. The monitor uses a parallax barrier technology to create 3D images. In addition to create better 3D images, the eye-tracking technology monitors users’ eye movement and shift filter on the monitor, so better 3D images are created at different viewing angle.

World’s fastest printer with PSA (Page Straight Array) technology

LG’s new color printer uses PSA technology with A4 size super wide head. 70,400 nozzle spray 900 million dots per second, so any A4 size pictures or documents can be printed in 1 second. No warming-up needed and the maintenance cost can be saved up to 70% by reducing consumable parts.

Last year’s display trend was to slim down the thickness of TV and to bring out the better 3D features. This year, smart function was added to create a new trend. Over the year, smartphone and tablets have become popular among many consumers and changed their life style. People share their photos and ideas using SNS on different platform like PCs, tablets and smartphones. Now TV is another option. Smart TV makes possible for people to communicate and do various things using TV apps. We are at merge of convergence in electronics and all devices are now capable to doing same things but with different advantages. Now high quality pictures can be taken with a smartphone and viewed on TV while communicating with friends. TV, computer, smartphone, tablet and more devices will communicate each other to bring true ubiquitous environment to our house.
