KES 2011, Korea October 13th — At one time, the Korean IT industry was led by hardware, but now it is software that is guiding today's IT industry. The development of software is in fact directing the way in which hardware is evolving as well. Software is unarguably one of the most essential keywords of 21st century IT, and smartphones are at the very center of this phenomenon. On the first day of KES 2011, the Software-Mobile Convergence hall proved just how big of an influence smartphones have on the industry in general, and the people from the participating companies at the hall also made a comment on their significance. SK C&C introduced the Nexcore series, a solution designed to improve the productivity of corporate projects. Especially, Nexcore Data Inspector received an excellence award at the Korean Software Competition. It is suitable for the companies that seek to expand their business environment and add smartness to it, and the solution saves the cost for operation and investment thanks to multi-platform support. The software can be applied to various operating systems, meeting with the needs of a broad range of customers.

Inteli Korea - Korea's only CAD manufacturer - has developed design software CAD. At KES 2011, the company is promoting CADian, which is currently exported to 120 countries around the world. Clice Han, the company's deputy department head, emphasized that "CAD is software that forms the base of many industries as it allows creating industrial drawings." Inteli Korea is developing a mobile program that will enable users to see drawings on an iPhone or Android device. The program is about 60 percent finished and the company is planning to release it early next year while planning on developing a 3D design programs as well.

Clusoft showcases a 3D speech organ simulator named Speech Mirror, which was designed to assist speech therapy and learning. The software helps with accurate pronunciation by showing the side view of the entire mouth including the tongue in the form of a video on the screen. The CEO Park Bong-Lae, introducing the product, said, "This is a radical program that can help people with a speech disorder or multicultural families as well as foreigners who want to learn Korean. And many speech therapists are interested in this software." The company is also developing and testing an App for English pronunciation improvement, by adopting Speech Mirror.

FALinux has brought an industrial OS-based solution Fast Boot, which speeds up running the OS. Simply put, it helps to switch on a device more quickly, and also fits in with green IT as it saves the time for input and output. The input/output control takes 0.146v, which is only about half of that of the company's rivals like Japan's Ubiquitous and US-based Monta Vista. It can be applied to a wide range of embedded devices from home appliances, automobiles, and medical equipment.

INFRAWARE is promoting the mobile office solution Polaris Office, which is just like MS Office but the difference is that this software is applicable to smartphones and tablet PCs. Polaris Office provides a viewer with which you can open files formatted for MS Office, Hangul documents, PDF, and image files - you can even edit the MS Office files. Prior to release during the fourth quarter this year, the company is waiting for an ISO certificate at the moment.

Beagle displays the smartphone black box App Ployd and mountain navigation App Sherpa and Tranggle. Ployd is black box software for automobiles that records an accident in video using a smartphone camera and also detects a shock with the gravity sensor to analyze the cause of an accident. The network feature allows users to send the video via email and mark the accident location and current location on the map using Google Maps. Sherpa and Tranggle, on the other hand, are navigation systems designed for outdoor activities, adding more fun by enabling users to post relevant events and news through their SNS service.

Meanwhile, the Software-Mobile joint exhibition hall doubled as a venue for a Job Fair for software firms to discover new talent. This event was organized in advance as the companies selected candidates from over 400 applicants who registered for the interview on one of the KEA websites www.e-job.or.kr. On the first day of KES 2011, human resources personnel from 52 companies interviewed 220 online applicants and 57 on-site applicants. Choi Seongshik, vice-director of KEA, the organizer of the Job Fair, said, "The actual employment rate will be probably high because the companies had the opportunity to select the applicants before the interview." The Job Fair will be held throughout KES 2011 and, on the second day, about 130 online applicants are expected to be interviewed.
