Minnesota, USA -October 12, 2011 - According to the International Association for the Wireless Telecommunications Industry (CTIA), there are more cell phone service subscribers in the U.S. than people who are actually living within the U.S. While there are reported 315.5 million people living in the U.S., there are 327.6 wireless subscribers. How is this possible Either we are carrying around multiple phones -for work and other purposes - or we are too hungry for technology that one phone just is not enough anymore. Perhaps cell phones are following the trend that happened with TVs; at first TVs were seen as a luxury, but became so essential that there are multiple within one home now.

Undoubtedly the cell phone service industry is seeing record growth after the release of smartphones; even though less than half of users currently own these phones, it is gaining in popularity and users are switching to them as soon as their 'contracts' are done. But if you count the PDA use in the smartphone category, it is increases the total to over half - specifically, 57% of phones! This data compiled is from June 2011; since then, phones such as the iPhone 4S and others debuted, so it is likely that cell phone subscribers increased as some individuals do not wait for contracts to end -these continue to stay active.

In the coming months it is suspected that the iPhone 5 should appear; although the plans may be slightly altered after the death of Apple's co-founder, Steve Jobs. The future of iPhone and smartphone is unclear. The one fact is obvious that people will keep buying and the phone usage is bound to explode in the next few years.

On a separate note, the word in the technology world is that Apple plans to produce a 'mini-iPad' -sometime in 2010 -to compete with the Amazon Fire that releases in November. If it will do this successfully, it will either contain a few extra features than the Fire or be in the same price range. Amazon's Fire is already expected to be successful, but is Apple downgrading itself if it introduces a less-advanced tablet into the market We will see!
