Climate Savers Computing Initiative (CSCI), the 700-member consortium focused on reducing the energy consumption and carbon footprint of information and communications technologies (ICT), today announced the release of the white paper Considerations for Selecting Power Supplies for Networking Equipment and Evaluating Power Conversion Efficiency. CSCI discusses the paper, as well as the second and third papers in the series, in a two-minute video at http://www.youtube.com/user/climatesave
The paper has been developed by CSCI's Networking Workgroup where Broadcom Corporation, Cisco, Ecova, Emerson Network Power, LiteOn, F5, Intel and Juniper Networks are collaborating to develop best practices for network energy efficiency. Designed as a resource for IT, enterprise and telecommunications communities, the paper focuses on unique energy usage considerations found in networking equipment, the resulting complications that affect power supply unit selection, and the operational challenges associated with system demand requirements.
"Today's news marks a significant step forward in driving energy efficient networks based on best practices from CSCI," saidGeorge O. Goodman, executive director, CSCI. "While each paper provides valuable information for addressing different facets of energy consumption within network equipment, together the three papers will help system designers, IT teams, CIOs, CFOs and finance and procurement professionals design, purchase, install, and manage networks that are optimized for energy efficiency."
Considerations for Selecting Power Supplies for Networking Equipment and Evaluating Power Conversion Efficiency is available at http://bit.ly/sbOoYk. The next papers, Power Management for Networking Devices and the Energy Efficiency Guide for Networking Devices, will be released later this year.
