Seoul, The “Smart Content 2011 Awards and Conference” was held at COEX for 2 days starting November 2. The event

"The 6th Year, The Largest Ever"

was hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism (Minister: Choe Kwang-shik) and organized by the Korea Creative Content Agency (President: Lee Jae-woong). 

Now on its 6th year, the “Smart Content Awards” that began on November 2, 2005 is the only international event aimed at discovering and awarding excellent Smart Contents worldwide. For the “Smart Content Awards 2011,” 154 Smart Content entries from 15 countries, including US, Japan, and Korea, were considered, the largest ever. 

A total of 19 primary nominations were selected from among entries, and a total of 7 final winners of the main awards in 5 categories, i.e., game, entertainment, information, SNS, and education, and 2 special prizes for creative innovation and Smart TV, were selected following impartial, careful examination.

The “Maple Story: Cygnus” from Nexon Mobile was selected as the winner in the Game category. As a mobile version of Maple Story, the world-renowned online game, it features excellent technology including a user interface for which patent is pending. It also has outstanding graphics and has enhanced user convenience, thanks to continued updates. 

Booktrack's “The Power of Six,” which won the Entertainment category, has effectively matched sound effects and music with text, providing users with optimized reading experience through the use of Smart equipment. Booktrack collaborates with various domains, e.g., world-renowned printing companies, writers, sound artists, and content producers. 

Winning the Information category is “Seoul Safety Guard”of Ubizvalley, an application aimed at protecting citizens from various kinds of disasters that occur in the vicinity of users. It can promptly tackle disasters and protect life and property using a real-time alarm system in case of emergency. 

“Newszapped News Keywords Social Network” of Newszapped Media SB emerged victorious in the category of Social Networking. This networking system/news site matches users with similar news keywords. 

“Speakingpal” of Speakingpal Ltd., won the Education category. As an automatic speech recognition English lesson application designed for a mobile system, it can improve speaking ability at low prices. 

The “Radio alarm clock HD” from Ensight Media was chosen as a winner of a special award in the Creative Innovation category; it is an application containing more than 45,000 radios and alarm and sleep timers in 5 versions. You can terminate the alarm by shaking the mobile phone. 

“Angry Duckling” of Minigate, selected as a special prize winner in the category of Smart TV, allows users to enjoy games through Smart TV using wireless game contents. It has given a funny twist to “Ugly Duckling,” the famous fairytale. Some 30 stages appear, inducing the interest of users. 

Winners in each category will get various winners' privileges including USD 5,000, a trophy, and an emblem of excellence. In addition, an award nominations PR booth will be operated at the G-Star event to be held in Busan this coming November 10. 

Meanwhile, the “Smart Content 2011 Conference” held on November 2, under the theme of “Smart Being @ Smarter Life,” featured a keynote address titled “How to Live Smartly in a Smart World,” and the three conference sessions were a huge success, with approximately 2,000 participants attending. On the other hand, the “App Creation Workshop” held jointly by Samsung Electronics and Go Venture introduced the major features of Samsung Electronics' Smart Phone OS Bada and the developer support program. They also explained the App manufacturing tools and presented development cases that have drawn approximately 200 participants, showing the enthusiasm for App creation. 

On November 3, the last day of the event, activities will be held such as “Smart Contents 2011 Conference” under the theme of “How to Survive in the Smart Jungle,” including the “App Creation Workshop” and “Carrier Crunch” provided by LG Electronics and Microsoft. On that day, Henri Holm, Senior Vice President of Rovio, creaters of the world-class, Smart Game Angry Birds, will attend the session on “Regional marketing strategies aimed at successful commercialization.” 

There will be many other attractions including the presentation of Smart Content Award nominations and LG Smart TV exhibitions. This event is sponsored by LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, SK Communications, Microsoft, and Go Venture.
