Seoul, The GM Korea Employee Foundation, a charitable organization established by the employees of GM Korea, held the Making Kimchi with Love event today at GM Korea’s Bupyeong headquarters in Incheon. They produced 10 tons of kimchi for local social welfare organizations and needy families.

Among the 300 participants were GM Korea Vice President of Domestic Vehicle Manufacturing, Powertrain Manufacturing and Labor Relations Youngcheol Jeon; Labor Union Branch Chairman Gi Min; GM Korea Vice President of Global Purchasing and Supply Chain M Venkatram; GM Korea Senior Government Relations and Public Policy Senior Advisor Inbom Choi; local and foreign GM Korea employees and their family members; and volunteers from the community.

The kimchi was delivered to 30 social welfare organizations, including Byeotbaraki, Yelimwon, Shalomwon and the Komnamu Local Children Center. The Korean staple was also provided to 550 families through the Food Bank under the Incheon Municipal Council on Social Welfare.

Since its establishment in 2005, the GM Korea Employee Foundation has made the production of kimchi an annual event as the winter months set it. Over the years, 76 tons of kimchi have been produced and delivered.

Youngcheol Jeon said, “I hope that through our effort, we can contribute to a more compassionate society. GM Korea will continue carrying out activities like today’s to help those less fortunate.”

Gi Min said, “This is not just a donation ceremony. It is an opportunity for all of us to fulfill our corporate social responsibility by volunteering our time to work together for a noble cause.”

Sangyong Han, Senior Director of the Incheon Municipal Council on Social Welfare, expressed his appreciation, saying: “Thanks to the generosity of GM Korea employees, people in need will not have to worry about having kimchi to get through the winter. We will provide our full and ongoing support to lend a helping hand.”

Since its establishment in 2005, the GM Korea Employee Foundation has been carrying out charitable activities, providing support such as reimbursing medical expenses, offering scholarships, funding education for underprivileged gifted students and improving housing conditions. It has also been engaged in various social welfare projects, including donating vehicles, renovating welfare facilities, providing daily necessities and emergency relief, and organizing employee volunteer activities.

The GM Korea Employee Foundation was recognized for its work, receiving the Health & Welfare Minister’s Award for the second time on October 25. It was also honored in 2007.
