PARIS, FRANCE -- Travellution, the travel social network connecting users travelling to the same destination at the same time, officially releases its platform to the public as it closes its financing round. As the first “social” social network, Travellution involves its users in its decisions and implements an ethical business model.

“There are many people planning similar trips or dreaming of visiting the same destinations. I thought it would be useful to offer these people a means of connecting and finding solutions together to realize their Dreamtrips. Hence, I came up with the idea of Travellution,” says Giacomo Bastianelli, founder of Travellution. “I wanted to propose a novel approach to social interactions between people sharing the same travel dreams.”

Travellution introduces unique social features, such as the “Tripmate” concept that establishes a relationship between users going or dreaming of going to the same destination at the same time. Additionally, the site provides tools for creating and planning a trip, communicating with other Tripmates, as well as geo-localized content based on the destinations selected.

“We imagined the concept of Dreamtrips to allow our users to create their dream holidays. The social and trip-planning tools allow Travellutioners to find Tripmates and transform their Dreamtrips into reality,” explains Sigbjørn Dybdahl, co-founder.

Travellution introduces two additional concepts to the social networking paradigm. First, it offers Travellutioners the opportunity to become actively involved in the strategic decisions of the site through a Community Advisory Board. Secondly, Travellution encourages users to respect and preserve cultural and environmental diversity while committing a portion of its annual revenues to NGOs and social businesses engaged in preserving this diversity through its Ethical Model.

“We believe that Travellution Ethical Model empowers our users and allow them to make a difference by deciding who will benefit from our ethical model. We feel that the current financial crisis has shown that the way businesses currently operate is not sustainable and at Travellution we are proposing an alternative,” says Giacomo Bastianelli.

Travellution‘’s welcome page was designed to exhibit the most impressive work of selected travel photographers, inspiring Travellutioners to dream of their next destination. Travellution organized its launch party in collaboration with the Erasmus student community on November 3rd 2011 in Paris.
