The Winners of the 12th Annual Software Industry Workers Day Award

Kwon Youong-beom, president of Younglimwon is the winner of the Silver Tower.

SEOUL, KOREA --- Kwon Youong-beom has been leading the way in building IT systems for small and medium-sized companies in Korea for 32 years (14 years in the MIS sector, two years in the package sector and 16 years in the ERP sector) as a software engineer and a software architect. Younglimwon Soft Lab has been a principal force in IT systems for small and medium sized companies by providing ERP systems for small and medium-sized companies by offering a Korean-type ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) package in 1997.

President Kwon has been steadily expanding human resources for the company resulting in an increase in sales. In 2009, Younglimwon Soft Lab made a record of expanding its sales by 50% by launching a new product in 2009. In addition, the company is making efforts to diversify by as developing new products and improving qualities through R&D investment and holding a CEO forum and a CEO workshop for corporate customers.   

These efforts have paid off. The company has enjoyed ratio of 90% or higher signing maintenance contracts with corporate customers. In 2010, the company recorded 20 win-backs beating larger competitors.

In addition, Younglimwon Soft Lab is fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities. The company is running a scholarship program called “Younglimwon 1% Club”, while at the same time supporting UNICEF Korea and a Science and Engineering College in Yanji, China. It came as no surprise that Kwon won the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit.

Lee Young-sang, President of DataSteams is the winner of Prime Minister’s Prize.

 

DataStreams developed a TeraStream the first ETL tool its kind developed in Korea, by developing core technology in the data integration and quality sectors on its own. Their ETL Tool TeraStream acquired a Good Software (GS) certificate and has been steadily growing in the market.   

DataStreams was founded in 1999. Since then, the company has marked stable growth, expanding its market share at home and abroad. At the moment, more than 90% of domestic financial institutions are using the software of DataStreams. The company expects to expand its sales a great deal by making inroads into the global market. DataStreams has won the Grand Prize and the Excellence Prize in the Korea Digital Competitiveness Awards and the Deputy Prime Minister’s Prize in the 2007 Maekyung Excellent Venture Start-up Awards. In 2011, the company was designated as an ATC (Advanced Technology Center) by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy.

President Lee Young-sang has been also active as chairman of the Korea Software Industry Association since 2010. Lee won the Prime Minister’s Prize in recognition of his accomplishments – promoting the interest of Korean software companies by improving the GS Certification System, laying the foundation for expanding the software industry, establishing systems for equal partnership between large and small companies and suggesting more reasonable software maintenance fees.

In addition, Lee is actively pushing for industry-university cooperation by signing MOUs with schools such as Bucheon, Youngdong, Korea Polytechnic, and Daegu Universities in order to nurture talented software engineers to ensure a strong future of the software industry and create jobs.
