SEOUL, KOREA --- Odd Concepts (CEO: Kim Jeong-tae) said on the 28th that their search engine, ‘Odd Eye’ won the NIPA presidential award at the 23rd Global software contest.
The Global Software Contest, which opened for the 23rd time this year, is held by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, and supervised by the National IT Industry Promotion Agency, and the IT Professional Association of Korea to find and promote creative software.
Since most of the competitors came up with mobile based or business use software, while Odd Concepts came up with a search engine based on images unique to the Korean market, they were the center of attention.
Odd Eye, made by Odd Concepts, searches for patents and not only shows you the schematic, but shows you the patent design and blue prints as well. This content-based search area is a hot topic in the current search engine market. It also is the new generation search engine that global companies such as Google, Microsoft are devoting their resources to building which has been gaining notice and the judges also acknowledged this fact.
Until now Odd Concepts have won the first prize in the Patent Search Engine Contest in 2009 and 2010 with ‘an image-based search system and in 2010, they won the excellence award with a 3 dimensional conversion of a 6 sided blue print.
Kim Jeong-tae, CEO of Odd Concepts said “We are happy to have won such an award as a representative of the vast number of venture companies in Korea from an internationally known contest” and “Odd Concepts is planning to grow into a global IT company by continuing to build innovative image search engines.”
This contest was divided into students and others and many domestic and foreign developers, companies, groups, individuals, and students participated. There were 14 international teams coming from the USA, India, China, Singapore, Poland, and total of 145 teams participated.
There were five entry categories such as Software, Mobile apps, NET, CAD/CAM, and Java. Through three sets of examinations: a Document examination, an Examination according to the area, and an Overall examination.
Odd Concepts also have four patents in image and video search about business models and self developed algorithms, and in November they gained a patent in the US.
