General Manager Bernhard Brender, Honorary Citizen of Seoul

The Millennium Seoul Hilton is pleased to announce its General Manager, Mr. Bernhard Brender, was awarded with honorary citizenship of Seoul at a conferment ceremony held by the Seoul Metropolitan Government at Seoul City Hall on May 1st, 2005. The honorary citizenship is an acknowledgement of the important impact foreign residents can have. Mr. Brender joined twelve other esteemed men and women in accepting certificates of honorary citizenship from Seoul Mayor Lee Myung-Bak. Each honorary citizen was nominated as a candidate through embassies or non-government agencies. The candidates must have resided in Seoul for five consecutive years or for ten cumulative years. Mr. Brender selection for honorary citizenship was a recognition of his contributions to the Seoul hotel industry, where he has devoted the last fifteen years of his life. He also contributed to raising the standards of service in the hotel industry, thus improving the image of Seoul. In addition to this, Mr. Brender also organized and implemented various events to booster the relations between foreigners and the citizens of Seoul. Past honorary citizens include Guus Hiddink, the Dutch coach who led Korea soccer team to the quarterfinals at the 2002 World Cup; UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Roger Moore; and Nobel Peace Prizewinner Joseph Rotblat. The Millennium Seoul Hilton is very pleased to have its own General Manager bestowed with such an honorable award. Mr. Brender has been a welcome and positive addition to the Hilton family, and it is befitting that he be recognized for his contributions to the city of Seoul as well. * About Mr. Bernhard Brender, General Manager:
Mr. Brender, born in Obermuenstertal, Germany, has been working in the hotel industry for the last forty-five years, the last fifteen of which have been in Seoul, Korea. Prior to joining the Millennium Seoul Hilton, Mr. Brender also managed the Sheraton Walker Hill and the Westin Chosun Hotels. Before coming to Korea, Mr. Brender has held numerous posts in various countries in Asia, Europe and Africa. In addition to his role as a hotelier, Mr. Brender has been serving the community as Chairman of the Parents Council at Seoul International School since 1995, and as Baille Delegue (Chairman) of the Korean Chapter of Chaine des Rotisseurs since 2001. He has also been an active member of the U.S. National Ski Patrol since 2001.
