The new outlook for networking services in 2012

When Facebook reached 1 million users in December 2004, it sparked a social networking boom. Now, SNS companies such as Twitter, Google +, SoundCloud all are familiar brands, and not just to the tech-savvy. These networking services have influenced our lives much more than we'd admit. With various tools and new applications, we can stay in touch with almost everyone we have met in our lives, at any time.

Facebook, which recently launched a new feature called Timeline, allows us to review our social lives that we shared online. Moreover, Facebook partnered up with Spotify, which is a music streaming service that comprises music files from all over the world, in order to facilitate an easy way of listening to music. Having now more than 750 million active users, Facebook will continue to be part of our everyday life, even possibly becoming the major component of our lives.

Although there were numerous assumptions that Google + could not attract many users, Google ultimately attracted more than 50 million active users. Launched in January 28th in 2011, Google+ has distinct features such as the Circle, which allows users to segment their contacts into circles and choose which circle to share content with, and the search option, which allows users to search any keywords and gives an instant access to relevant updates from your circles, news from around the web and the public Google+ posts.

Year 2011 was exciting as Facebook introduced its new features with timeline and Spotify, and Google launched Google+. However, the new outlook for the year 2012 is mostly likely SoundCloud. Established in Germany in early October of 2008, SoundCloud quickly rose to prominence when it first reached its 1 million users by May 2010. Using the most recent technology of clouding service, which is a service of shared resources, software and information through the web, SoundCloud allows users to access a variety of music around the world.

By having a distinctive URL, the user could post any of his or her recorded files through the web and even from mobile devices. Once the user has posted his or her files, anyone could hear the files and comment on them. Through SoundCloud, many artists have attained fame and publicity, such as Skrillex and Childish Gambino. Users can follow other users from SoundCloud and even leave files through the Dropbox feature. Users can also share their SoundCloud blogs through Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and other networking services.

Having raised USD 10 million from Union Square Ventures and Index Ventures, SoundCloud received additional investments from Ashton Kutcher and Guy Oseary. Currently, there are 5 million active users and the number of users will continue to grow rapidly. If SoundCloud could partner with Spotify and have a weekly list of tracks from new artists, it could not only increase its revenue from advertising but also support new artists. With such technology and popularity, we have anticipate much more from SoundCloud.
