In light of the fact that KT Powertel has effectively captured a niche market in the face of the enormous competition that currently characterizes the Korean mobile communication market, the company feat is gaining recognition from communication providers from around the globe. Hong Yong-pyo, president of KT Powertel, says in a special interview with The Korea IT Times, he last 7 years has been a period for KT Powertel to create a solid foundation on which to build its digital TRS business. The year 2005 will be one of intense significance for our company, since it is now that we intend to develop and grow our business structure and scope. He points out first that 2005 will become a year of confusion in which crisis and opportunity coexist with each other, explaining that the mobile communication market is changing rapidly. As is widely known, new technologies such as DMB (digital multimedia broadcasting) or WiBRO (Wireless Broadband Service) are soon to be launched and competition with regional TRS business providers cannot be avoided, the KT Powertel president said. To convert such circumstances of crisis into opportunity, he emphasizes that KT Powertel will create business opportunities through promotion, delivering outstanding solutions, opening and operating superb networks, staying n the black ink, building ever firmer ties with corporate customers and maintaining a low-cost/high-efficiency business policy. Through this approach, he states that KT Powertel will devote all its resources to growing its TRS business, adding that 2005 will be a make or break year for this line of business. An outstanding feature of Powertel service is its Push-to-Talk (PTT) wireless function, which has nationwide coverage. Accordingly, by using PTT, it is possible for a customer to speak by telephone 100,000 other subscribers simultaneously across the country. PTT provides customers with a fast connection to multiple parties with whom they communicate most, all at the same time and by pushing a button rather than dialing a number. Hong pointed out that KT Powertel will bring such strong points of TRS into sharp relief and promote the competitiveness of the system by developing additional services. In particular, the company president stresses that KT Powertel will focus its efforts on boosting customer loyalty by providing a variety of solutions, which can be extremely beneficial for customers who subscribe to the company service. For the purpose of achieving multi-directional customer satisfaction the company is placing top priority on service development as well as enlargement. In that respect, 2004 was a banner year, since in this period KT Powertel prepared the ground for services and initiatives such as 1000.cube, a wireless Internet service, completion of infrastructure for the company Locational Based Service (LBS), the start of its international roaming service in the U.S. and maritime mobile communication. On the basis of infrastructure that has already been constructed, KT Powertel will strive to meet customers needs in an evermore precise fashion by developing various additional services, step by step. The Company is also committed to providing customers with differentiated services according to each type of business. For instance, the development of a maritime network solution, the introduction of a prepayment service, expansion of the international roaming service, and solutions appropriate for all sorts of logistical as well as transportation applications, Hong noted by way of providing examples. He underscored that KT Powertel will consolidate its position through its PTT service while emerging rapidly as a mobile communication company, and by realizing customer satisfaction in many different aspects.
