With Dacom Corporation's launch of its overseas Webhard English service May 31, people the world over (not to mention foreigners residing in Korea) can now keep materials more safely, exchange large capacity files more conveniently, and share materials with a designated person much more easily. Webhard, an online storage service launched by Dacom in February 2000, enables users to store/manage various data by freely connecting to the Internet and to rapidly send/share data between individuals or divisions/companies. Dacom's Webhard English service (www.webhard.net) provides all its services and user interfaces (i.e., its user environment) in English and allows for the settling of accounts in U.S. currency via leading international credit cards. An official responsible for overseas marketing of Webhard at Dacom said that it is possible to access the service via a PC, and will be useful for business persons who travel frequently. The official explained that this is the first Web storage system of its kind offered in Korea that provides an English-language operating environment and which it is possible to pay for in U.S. currency. To begin with, Dacom plans to market the service to foreigners in Korea, foreign companies doing business within Korea, domestic companies as well as Korean embassies overseas and students studying abroad. Then, the company is plans to market the Webhard service to major corporations in the advanced economies of the U.S., Canada, and Europe on the basis of its advanced functions and quality competitiveness. Kim Hee-Ok, Dacom's Webhard Business team Manager explained that the overseas Web storage market represented by the U.S. and Japan are in its early stage yet. "So, we plan to make inroads into foreign markets on the basis of our Webhard business experience," she said. It is possible to pay for the Webhard English service via major credit cards such as Visa, Master, American Express, JCB and Diners Club. The rates are extremely reasonable; 500MB and 1GB of storage space are offered at $5 and $10 per month, according to the marketing team. Dacom has a definite competitive edge in Webhard since it has an advantage of being the first Internet-based online storage service to be launched, thereby acquiring the most powerful brand image in the online storage market. Webhard can claim a high degree of reliability as Dacom has been providing the service 365 days per year over the last 5 years since it was launched without a single hitch. As it has a three-fold backup system to store customers' data safely, Dacom's Webhard has successfully positioned itself as the premium service for business, the company's spokesman said. As a result, Dacom is proud of its operational expertise in regard to equipment such as storage banks and servers.
