The Seoul Digital Forum's Opening Ceremony was honored by the presence of President Roh Moo Hyun, the former Vice President of the United States, the Honorable Al Gore, (keynote speaker) and Kug-jung Ahn, President and CEO, SBS. Technological innovations have already brought on changes to traditional lifestyles. Yet with the continuous and rapid development of digital technologies, societies will experience a new technological revolution -- this time called the 'Ubiquitous Revolution'. This refers to the creation of an environment (seamlessly) embedded with computational devices and mechanisms that provide necessary information and services to the user, based on the information that is automatically sensed from the physical and computational surrounding. The following is an abstract of the speeches of three speakers. Mr. Ahn: Today there are many important leaders and individuals from all over the world who have joined today to create a better digital society through information technology. The vision for the future is the digital revolution that is currently dominating societies throughout the world. The digital revolution constantly brings changes to our lives, thus making a better future and creating a ubiquitous society. Technological development and the dreams of innovators have made the digital revolution possible for all people. Our challenge going forward is to continue the development within the digital revolution to bring growth, prosperity and success. President Roh: This event is a very important forum with technology leaders from all over the world in attendance. I thank former Vice President Al Gore for attending and for being instrumental in pushing forward the Internet and Information Superhighway. Korea continues to be a leader in digital technology and IT and two-thirds of Korean citizens currently use the Internet, cell phones and other IT related items. WiBro has been developed as a result of massive investment on the Korean side. Now, Korea is recognized throughout the world as a dynamic country in the fields of digital technology. There are many challenges, however, that currently exist and Korea must work hard to overcome them. A few of the challenges to overcome include continued investment, infrastructure development, convergence of technologies and continued integration. Korea also strives to continue work in the fields of medical and defense related issues. The goal is to enable all people to enjoy all that digital technology information has to offer. Former Vice President Al Gore: I wish to thank President Roh, SBS President Mr. Ahn and to all those who made the forum a huge success. In the age of information overflow, it is important to ask the right questions to get relevant answers. I am impressed at the pace by which Korea has advanced in regards to digital technology and convergence. The main goal of these advancements is to determine how to achieve a human-centered society through digital technology. Also, a major question is how change will look when full convergence takes place. I feel that the primary goal of the forum is to make life better for all people. We will continue to use these impressively developed devices and tools to create a better ubiquitous society. We must all work together through technology to solve the world's problems as there are many global challenges to face in the future. In fact, many people do not realize it, but, the invention of the printing press in 1453 was actually based on drawings from Korea of movable type. In the end, the digital revolution started in Korea and the main goal is to make the world a better place.
