SEOUL, KOREA ― The 1st Meeting of the G-20 Development Working Group (DWG), held in Mexico City, Mexico, on January 30-31, adopted green growth and infrastructure as the key G-20 development issues for this year, and decided to hold the 2nd DWG Meeting in Seoul on March 19-20.

The government of the Republic of Korea sent to the Meeting a delegation led by MOFAT’s Director-General for Development Cooperation Park Enna and comprised of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ministry of Strategy and Finance, and Ministry of Employment and Labor.

At the Meeting, the participants reviewed the progress in the implementation of the Seoul Development Consensus and the Multiannual Action Plan on Development adopted at the 2010 G-20 Seoul Summit; and agreed on the specific direction and strategies for the G-20 Los Cabos Summit slated for this June to achieve tangible outcome in fields related with development, including green growth, infrastructure, food security and vocational training, based on the results of the Cannes Summit held last year.

The Republic of Korea, which served as a co-chair of the G-20 DWG last year, is continuing such service this year at the request of the DWG chair, Mexico, leading discussions on the development agenda since their adoption at the 2010 G-20 Seoul Summit.

Mexico, the chair of the DWG for this year, has proposed that green growth be included in the development agenda as a new area of focus. The ROK, along with Australia and Brazil, has been selected to serve as a co-facilitator in the field.

The ROK, as a green growth co-facilitator, will cooperate with the DWG chair, Mexico, at the Los Cabos Summit in June to make tangible achievements in green growth, the area of foremost interest for Mexico.

As part of efforts to this end, a G-20 meeting on green growth will be held with the DWG chair in Seoul on March 1 for discussion on the DWG’s specific plan to pursue green growth.

In a similar move, the Global Green Growth Institute plans to host a conference on green growth on February 29.
