iPad LTE

On the early morning of March 8th (Korean standard time), Apple launched a new smart pad, “iPad 4G” which supports LTE. This new device made its debut at Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco, USA. Until now, Apple only applied 3G to its mobile devices. In fact, the iPad 4G is the first device that contains LTE. Apple may continuously utilize LTE in future iPhones.

The new iPad features a stunning new Retina™ display, Apple’s new A5X chip with quad-core graphics and a 5 megapixel iSight® camera with advanced optics for capturing amazing photos and 1080p HD video. iPad with Wi-Fi + 4G connects to fast networks worldwide, including AT&T and Verizon’s 4G LTE networks, and still delivers the same all-day 10 hour battery life* while remaining amazingly thin and light.

iPad Wi-Fi + 4G with built-in next generation 4G LTE has the most comprehensive support for fast networks worldwide including HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA, and now both CDMA and GSM iPad users have the ability to easily roam internationally. The world-ready iPad delivers blazing download and upload speeds so web pages load incredibly quickly and email with large attachments can be sent and received easily. Personal Hotspot can be used to share the fast network connection on your iPad with up to 5 other devices using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB**.

With iOS 5.1, the latest update to the world’s most advanced mobile operating system, the new iPad has a number of new features and enhancements including: a redesigned Camera app with video stabilization technology; the ability to delete photos from Photo Stream; support for dictation in English, French, German and Japanese; and Personal Hotspot. iOS 5.1 also works seamlessly with iCloud®, a breakthrough set of free cloud services including iTunes® in the Cloud, Photo Stream and Documents in the Cloud, that works seamlessly with your iPhone®, iPad, iPod touch®, Mac® or PC to automatically and wirelessly store your content and push it to your devices. When content changes on one of your devices, your other devices are updated automatically

iPad HD

Awesome Display

The new iPad’s Retina display is so fine that the human eye is unable to distinguish individual pixels when held at a normal distance, making web pages, text, images and video look incredibly sharp and realistic. The 3.1 million pixels in the Retina display contain more than one million more pixels than an HD TV.  There is also 44 percent increased color saturation, displaying colors that are unbelievably richer, deeper and more vivid. Movies are now capable of playing at full 1080p HD-resolution, delivering an incomparable viewing experience on a mobile device.

The powerful new A5X chip with quad-core graphics was specifically designed by Apple to deliver a fast, responsive user experience while supporting the incredible Retina display. With double the graphics performance of the A5 chip, the A5X provides a superb balance between performance and power efficiency so users can enjoy all the benefits of the stunning new display while experiencing a smooth Multi-Touch™ interface, immersive gameplay, incredible visual depth and all-day battery life that iPad is known for delivering.

The 5 megapixel iSight camera features advanced optics for taking stunning pictures and recording full HD video. Backside illumination allows you to take great photos in low-light conditions and a new video image stabilization feature removes the bumps and shakes typically seen when filming with a hand-held device. Images can be enjoyed on the large Retina display, then edited, enhanced and easily shared with friends and family using the built-in Photos app on iPad

Message from Philip Schiller

“The new iPad redefines the category Apple created less than two years ago, delivering the most amazing experience people have ever had with technology,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “The new iPad now has the highest resolution display ever seen on a mobile device with 3.1 million pixels, delivering razor sharp text and unbelievable detail in photos and videos.”

LG Electronics Optimus LTE 2

Will the new iPad come to Korea

On March 8th, Apple announced that they will supply iPad 4G LTE to two of the largest U.S. mobile companies, Verizon and AT & T. Apple also mentioned they have partnerships with Canadian mobile companies including as Rogers, Bell and Telus.

It is still uncertain whether the new iPad will be launched in Korea, since Apple’s new LTE model uses a frequency band for North American countries which are not suited for Korean LTE frequencies. If Apple creates a different application for Korea, then there is a high possibility of releasing the new iPad to the Korean Market.

When the iPad 4G LTE lands in Korea, LG U+ which has not released any Apple products is likely to participate as a partner. KT threatened SK Telecom (Korea’s largest mobile company) with the introduction of the iPhone 3GS to Korea in 2009. This could mean disaster for Korean LTE manufacturers by Apple’s iPad 4G LTE.

A representative from the mobile industry said "if the iPad 4G LTE makes monthly LTE payments somewhat lower, it will be able to increase the demand of LTE smart pads (not only iPad but also other products explosively).” The local companies which are already struggling in the smart pad business fear a direct hit by Apple when it combines with Korean LTE forces.

The iPhone 5, which will be scheduled for release in the third quarter of this year, may collaborate with LTE. The LTE phone market, which Korea takes as its own, has new competition. Apple has already taken over the MP3 player and smartphone (once led by Samsung) with the iPod and iPhone.

Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1

Apple vs. Samsung

A representative said "Korea has been monopolizing 68 percent of the world’s LTE phone market since the fourth quarter of last year. They are having difficulty keeping a high share because their strong adversary emerged in the market." Samsung and LG will compete with the iphone5 using the `Galaxy S3’ and ‘Optimus LTE 2`.

The new iPad made its debut without being named the iPad3. It was indicated that the new iPad has similar hardware and features to its predecessor, the iPad2. It has a 9.7 in. thickness and same design as iPad2, but weighs, 2.2g with an increased thickness of 0.6㎜.

However, the display resolution is 2048 × 1536 with full HD quality that increases competition with the smart pad. It increased its Graphics chip (GPU) to a high-end quad-core, so the console game is also available. The PC gaming market was also invaded by iPad.

The Apple iPad `price` for the New Wi-Fi 16GB model was the same as the iPad2, USD 499. In turn, the iPad2 was lowered by USD 100. The new iPad will be sold from March 16th and will be released in 12 countries including the United States, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, etc. Starting on March 23rd, the iPad will be sold in 25 additional countries. Korea was not included as the primary or secondary market for the new iPad release. The new iPad has been expected to release in light of the precedent of releasing iPhone 4S which was sold in Korea soon after the secondary market. But the launch could be delayed slightly if Apple postpones the release day of new iPad with Korean Mobile companies.
