A new breakthrough that is expected to hasten the era of convergence of telecommunications with broadcasting has now been achieved, making it possible to enjoy data broadcasting through the terrestrial DMB (T-DMB) ahead of its full service by the end of this year.
On July 18, the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) said that it has developed a 'datalinked' broadcasting technology that makes two-way communications through the terrestrial DMB service possible. The technology, which was developed in conjunction with LG Electronics and the two joint research arms, Pixtree and net&tv, is the first of its kind in the world facilitating the synchronized interactive data service through T-DMB framework.
The AV synchronized interactive data service on T-DMB is a technology based on MPEG-4 Systems that makes data service possible through the screens of DMB terminals. ETRI said that the technology covers a broad spectrum of technologies that are necessary for users to receive interactive services.
