SEOUL, KOREA — On April 16 Samsung announced that Samsung’s Galaxy S III unveiling will be held in London on May 3; however, there has been a rumor that Samsung would launch the unveiling in NYC, Dubai, and Seoul as well.
According to the BGR, a foreign press that specializes in information technology, said that by introducing the new Galaxy in four different places at the same time, Samsung does not only have the goal of introducing their new Galaxy smartphone as the official device for the 2012 Summer Olympics, but also aims to advertise its four biggest smartphones before its competitors such as Apple’s iPhone 5 and introduce their new models.
As the date is approaching, several rumors about the Galaxy S III are circling around the web. Some say that the Galaxy S III will contain 1080p Full HD display, similarly to the new iPad, and 4G LTE connectivity.
These rumors would mean Samsung’s Galaxy S III would be the most advanced smartphone. However, another rumor suggested it would just be a downgraded version.
According to Electronista, another foreign press that specializes in information technology, said that only the international version is guaranteed to use the quad-core chip, while certain carriers may revert back to a dual-core processor to integrate LTE, just like the HTC One X on AT&T.
Furthermore, according to a Samsung news release, Samsung officials told The Telegraph, that Samsung plans on releasing a phone in time for the Olympics that would be compatible with Visa’s Near Field Communication (NFC) payments platform. Customers could then utilize their new Galaxy if they need to purchase some items during the games.
Samsung, in comparison to other leading electronic manufacturers, have been the subject of multiple rumors, due to their secretive nature that keep us at the edge of our seat while waiting for their new products to be on the market.
For instance, Samsung’s Taiwanese rival Acer, which also sponsors the 2012 Summer Olympics game, already announced its Olympic-branded tablet: the quad-core Iconia Tab A510. The device is based on Google’s Android 4.0 operating system with the Olympic rings on the back, according to a news release by their online magazine.
The news release also said that Samsung’s long time rival, Panasonic, another the 2012 Summer Olympics sponsor, has not specified its Olympic-branded device.
In response to these rumors by the BGR and The Telegraph, Samsung officials said in an email that “Samsung does not comment on rumors or speculation.” Thus, the world won’t know the truth of the rumors until Samsung reveals everything about the Galaxy S III on May 3.
