The exact date when people began to use bee venom is unknown, but it has been passed down as folk remedies for thousands of years. As far back as 400 B.C., Hippocrates – the Great physician, used bee venom to treat joint pain and swelling. Bee venom is now used in the treatment of many diseases. It is known to have many effects including accelerating blood circulation, hormone secretion from the pituitary gland, pain relief, reduces fever, and anti-bacterial. In 2005, together with Rural Development Administration, Chung Jin Biotech succeeded in developing the Bee Venom Collector which extracts bee venom through the administration of an electrical shock to a live bee. Since this collector has no substantial impact on basic bee-farming (collecting honey or pollen), or on the condition of the bees themselves, the death rate of bees are significantly lower than that of other devices.

Bee Venom Collector of Chung Jin Biotech works in this way: Power on the device when bees are resting on the collecting plates. This stimulates the bees, causing them to sting the glass plate and emit their venom. Then separate the glass plate from the collection plate and scrape the dried venom off with a scraper. Bee venom therapy that uses bees directly is inconvenient and problematic for medical use since the injection amount cannot be controlled. However, the Bee Venom Collector can extract venom from bees in a natural state.

Bee Venom collected by Chung Jin Biotech goes through a strict refining process, and it boasts of 99.9% of purified Bee Venom. “The name of the product was previously Dried Bee Venom as other ordinary products. But since we obtained a patent on the purification, we changed its name from Dried Bee Venom to Purified Bee Venom in consultation with the Rural Development Administration,” told the company.

Purified Bee Venom

Bee Venom of Chung Jin Biotech is used for Manuka Doctor, a New Zealand based company that specializes in healthy and natural products. It is sold in every store of Holland & Barrett, the UK’s leading retailer of vitamins. The company is exporting its products to more than 25 countries including the U.S., Mexico, Spain, Japan, and Iran. Chung Jin Biotech is also the first Korean company to invest in developing bee venom collector and a honeybee artificial insemination instrument. Through continuous R&D investment, the company obtained PCT, utility models, ISO9001, ISO14001, CE, RoHS patents and NEP certifications. “Many scholars already acknowledged many beneficial effects of bee venom and we will continue expanding research further,” told the CEO.
