Solar power generation has long been regarded as a potential answer to serious environmental issues such as carbon dioxide emissions and climate change. Korea, too, has started paying more attention to solar power generation with the ‘100,000 Solar Power House Distribution Project’ in 2004. Now the country is striving to raise that figure to one million while currently operating 137 solar power facilities in Ansan alone.
A Star Company in the New Renewable Energy Field
There is one outstanding company that began as a technological development firm for automobile-related testing machine in 1996 and since 2005 have been building a number of solar power plants and obtaining intellectual property rights in the renewable energy field.
DOHYEONG PRECESION (www.celltower.co.kr), specializing in solar power generation systems have recently developed a small solar home generation system, which is being tested in overseas markets in Mongolia, Micronesia, Africa, and Philippines. The company is also testing their solar tracker system and solar tracking streetlamp system amongst other products that won the firm a second prize and first prize in the Korea Invention Patent Exhibition. In particular, in 2011 the company instructed foreign companies in solar power generation systems, reaffirming its position in the global new renewable energy industry.
Based in Daegu, DOHYEONG PRECESION has earned a wide range of intellectual property rights including more than 20 patents, 9 utility models, and 6 design registrations. The company’s inventions range from the small solar home generation system to house/non-house/power plant solar module (solar power generation system); solar tracker; tracking/fixed streetlamp; and solar power LED security light (streetlight).
The small solar home generation system was designed to be easily installed and used in countries which lack a consistent electricity supply such as Mongolia, Micronesia, Tanzania, and Philippines. This CO2 emission-free, mobile product can be moved via vehicle and, therefore, can be installed in remote rural towns. It is no surprise that this product is recognized as a star product in the new renewable energy field.
DOHYEONG PRECESION mainly produces a grid-connected 3km solar power generation system, generating power when installed in a standard house, and a grid-connected solar power generation system that supplies electricity by utilizing unused spaces such as mountains, farms, large car parks or roofs of big warehouses. The company’s solar power LED security lights are used at elementary schools and parks around the country. Unlike conventional lighting devices, this product uses high-efficiency LED to solve the heating issue of the normal LEDs, and high-capacity lithium-ion battery for small size and light weight. Also, the multi-functional streetlight controller enables automatic control and monitoring based on microprocessor.
Kim Munshik, CEO of the small but strong contributor to Korea’s new renewable energy field, said, “DOHYEONG PRECESION will work harder to develop and distribute more environmentally-friendly products for the increasing gravity of environmental issues and the need for new renewable energy in this rapidly changing society.”
