SEOUL, KOREA — "I am selling products for small and medium businesses on the 29th of May on the Home & Shopping Channel. It will be broadcast via SNS as well as available on my Facebook page. You can watch the show from 10:20 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. via the TV, PC, or smartphones, and order what you need accordingly."

Bahk Jae-wan, Minister of Strategy and Finance, posted an eye-catching message on his Facebook (www.facebook.com/j1.bahk) on the 16th of May. He says he will introduce SME's products and engage in social shopping with viewers of the TV home shopping channel as well as his Facebook friends. “Have you heard of the ‘cash mob,’ which is about sharing our hearts” Minister Bahk asked on Facebook. “I was contemplating how SNS could help the economy, and was alerted to the news that cash mob is increasingly in popularity globally,” he explained of the project.

Minister Bahk added, “I thought, ‘well, we are the powerhouse of SNS,’ and decided to give it a try although I am not much of a power user,” to further explain the background of his plan to promote the cash mob for SME's products using home shopping and SNS. “Have you heard of Home & Shopping, then” he asked, referring to the TV home shopping channel specializing in SME's products, which opened in January. He went on to state that he plans to, “Utilize this channel as the location for SMB products and the target of my cash mob.” He encourages viewers to, “Let your Facebook friends and Twitter followers know and join the event.”

At the moment, he has nearly 6100 Facebook friends, having opened his own Facebook page in February last year.

A cash mob, which is defined as ‘a crowd with cash,’ refers to a group of people who gather via SNS to buy products at a certain store. It began in order to help local businesses such as a small bakery, for instance, struggling with competition against big chain conglomerates. The first ‘International Cash Mob Day,’ March 24, saw the event taking place simultaneously in the US, UK, Australia, and Sweden, amongst other countries.
