SEOUL, KOREA — Global DongUiBoGam Center hosted a forum discussing “Traditional Korean Medical Expert Seminars for Discovery of Traditional Knowledge” on June 15 at the Seoul Prince Hotel.

This event has been provided for the systematization of traditional knowledge regarding traditional Korean Medicine (TKM) following the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol which was voted in at a conference for the countries directly involved at the 10th Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in October 2010.

Since the Nagoya Protocol has taken effect, access to the genetic approach of benefit-sharing requires provision on legal basis. Also, the countries will strengthen the sovereignty of their biological resources and traditional knowledge. When the Protocol has reached full implementation, nations will require permission from the countries which have the sovereignty on biological resources and associated traditional knowledge. According to the mutually agreed terms, the utilization of monetary and nonmonetary benefits should be shared.
