Creating partnerships between Korean and U.S. industries With industry-oriented support through "Shared Services" such as a common logistics vicarious execution system and patent legal support and the success examples of construction of diverse strategy projects, iPark Silicon Valley is poised to differentiate its 2006 business.
Under the leadership of Korea's Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC), iPark Silicon Valley is one of eight global IT Korea promotions and SME support organizations launched by MIC. In other words, iPark is a non-profit organization set up to promote Korea's best IT products abroad. iPark Silicon Valley's primary goal is to deliver value-added localization service to Korea's emerging technology companies seeking a presence in North America markets. Its mission also is to establish and promote thriving partnerships between American IT enterprises and Korean IT client companies, and provide an effective gateway for Korean IT companies to successfully penetrate the United States marketplace. In a telephone interview on the occasion of the Trade's Day, Chief Executive Director Kevin Lee of iPark Silicon Valley in the United States stresses: "Since its inception in 2000, iPark Silicon Valley has been a trendsetter in information technology venture incubation by producing more than 100 iPark campus graduate firms with sustainable presence in the U.S. market." On the back of such brisk activities in the meanwhile, iPark Silicon is planning to forge success models of target industries as its priority mission next year. Kevin Lee, with over 20 years of experience in the computer, software and semiconductor industries, previously held a variety of management positions at Hewlett Packard in the United States and Asia- Pacific, points out: "What is important from now on is forging success models of target industries such as cellular phoneassociated semiconductor field (IT SoC), online game, broadband and networking field and consumer electronics field in which our companies' technology level is high", explaining that although there are our IT export products over 1,000 items, what can win in a competition with China, is no more than 50 items.
For the support of such strategy business, iPark Silicon Valley is planning to enforce "Shared Service," including common logistics vicarious execution system and patent legal support, M&A-oriented GIO (Global IPO Opportunity) 2006 plus IR/R&D as well as investment attraction support. As its second priority mission, Kevin Lee acknowledges that the sale of a product is determined by country branding, not only by the quality of a product. In that regard, the Chief Executive Director said that Korean commodity's image is falling since North Korea or Kim Jong Il come across American consumers' mind in conjunction with Korea products. Through on-the-spot press publicity (over 10 times) and on-thespot opinion leader control etc., Kevin Lee has committed himself to do his best for Country Marketing as well as Korean commodity's image management. Encouraged by such efforts, iPark Silicon Valley is aiming to list three Korean companies into NASDAQ next year. In this regard, the Chief Executive Director indicates that Korean firms are weak in terms of investment relations, such as financing and funding or IR, explaining that China's NASDAQ companies amount to 50 companies though their product or technology are never better than Korean products. According to its policy change, Kevin Lee explains that the transition from iParkSV Phase I (2000-2003) to iParkSV Phase II (2004-2008) to focus on target industries as well as nine new growth engines plus to create a successful formula for target industries is happening right now.
