HONGKONG – Jeju Island is the only Special Self-governing province in South Korea with a large variety of investment advantages.

Jeju Free International Development Center (JDC), the South Korean government agency is therefore found to attract oversea investors, property managers, tourism developers and investment companies. Berjaya Jeju Airest City is the largest integrated resort development in the history of Jeju Island undertaken by Berjaya Jeju Resort Limited (“BJR”), the joint venture between JDC and Berjaya, one of the leading conglomerates in Malaysia. Such remarkable international project brought BJR winning in the “Best Futura Mega Project” of MIPIM Asia Awards 2012.

Jeju Airest City – Berjaya Jeju Resort, is a 183.8-acre self-sustaining integrated and high-end resort development with total investment of US$2.4 billion. It is designed with a “creative business leisure city” concept, offering a total of 935 hotel rooms and 1,531 condominium units. Other components include a medical centre, casino, shopping mall, and entertainment outlets.. The unique architectural design was inspired from a variety of natural environment resources which emphasizes the World Natural Heritage of Jeju Island, where has been awarded the only Triple Crown by UNESCO and has recently been selected as one of the new Seven Wonders of Nature. Planned with ten different zonings, each building has its unique theme encompassing Jeju’s identity and bears iconic names such as Oreum, Gotjawal and others which demonstrate the distinctive design and function.

Mr Tang Vui Woon, Project Director of BJR, “This project is the largest single foreign investment in South Korea’s tourism industry aiming to turn Jeju into a free international city in Northern Asia. More than a conventional resort, it is a self-sustaining enclave that integrates vibrant living and new business platforms. We expect that such a new approach will satisfy developer, investors and visitors, as well as local residents.”

MIPIM Asia Awards is the most prestigious recognition for outstanding real estate developments in the Asia Pacific region due to their innovative, technical, environmental and architectural qualities. This year, 120 projects from 12 countries were submitted, among which maximum 3 winners in 11 distinct categories were shortlisted. Jeju Airest City – Berjaya Jeju Resort is the only winner in the category of “Best Futura Mega Project”. It has also garnered international recognition with awards from the International Property Awards, MIPIM World, and the Prime Minister’s Citation for Recycling Construction Waste. In addition, the project was designated as Foreign Investment Zone, Jeju Investment Zone and Tourism Complex and became the first project ever designated as the Triple Crown Incentive Zone in Korea, and hence eligible for various incentives.

About Jeju Free International City Development Center (www.jdcenter.com)

The South Korean government established Jeju Free International City Development Center (JDC) to foster and support the Jeju Special Self-governing Province and accelerate the development of Jeju free international city under the Jeju Free International City Implementation Plan (Nov. 2001) and the Special Act on the Establishment of Jeju Special Self-governing Province and the development of Jeju Free International City (February 21, 2006).

JDC is a national public corporation (Article 261 of the Special Act) established to simultaneously pursue both public and private benefits in order to successfully implement Jeju Free International City development projects. This body is affiliated with the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs as a national government-sponsored organization.

JDC is currently planning and implementing six core projects to foster and support Jeju Special self-Governing Province core industries (tourism, healthcare, education, environmentally-friendly agriculture, and high-tech industry).
