Jae-hong Kim, head of the Office of New Growth Engines at MKE

SILICON VALLEY, USA — US Correspondent of Korea IT Times, Sam Sung-hwan Hwang, conducted an interview with Jae-hong Kim, head of the Office of New Growth Engines at the Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE) at ‘K Tech@Silicon Valley 2012’ to promote the Korean technological wave in Silicon Valley.

Korea IT Times (KIT): Would you tell me about the significance of the K-Tech

Kim: We planned and held the K-Tech to create an opportunity to promote exchanges of technology, human resources, and capital between Korea and the U.S.We did this based on the publicity of Korea’s IT convergence and the suggestion of future visions.

The K-Tech will serve as a good opportunity to inform the world of Korea’s technological prowess. In particular, Korea is developing and producing fullpackaged products that combine technology, products, and services.

We chose Silicon Valley as the venue for our first K-Tech event after judging that Silicon Valley requires such Korean products and technology, and also the realization that Korean companies and companies in Silicon Valley can create mutual benefits by helping each other.

We expect the K-Tech to contribute to the technological and industrial development of both Korea and the U.S. through technological exchanges.

KIT: Would you introduce this event

Kim: ‘K Tech@Silicon Valley 2012’ consists of various exchange events under the theme of Korea and the U.S. creating new history on the basis of 130 years of the friendship and cooperation between the two countries. The exchange events are the IT Convergence Conference, where Korean and American IT convergence specialists share technology and knowledge and suggest future visions of IT convergence. The event also hostedmeetings between Korean IT companies and American buyers, the Technology Road Show to introduced IT convergence technologies of Korean research institutes, the Start-Up IR where promising Korean start-ups publicize themselves to U.S. venture capitalists, as well as the Job Fair to recruit excellent Korean human resources in Silicon Valley.

KIT: Average American people realize the excellence of Korean consumer electronic products such as cell phones and TVs rather than Korea’s IT technology. K-Tech is a good chance to tell them about Korea’s technological power.

Kim: Today, as I managed the event, I thought that the K-Tech should steadily inform the world of the Korean technological wave each year. I judge that the K-Tech should be an annual event. All participants were in agreement on this. We are planning to hold the K-Tech every year.
