Aiming to be one of the world's five largest RFID/USN companies Ceyon Technology (www.ceyon.co.kr) successfully concluded MOUs with European firms for solution supply at CeBIT 2006 held in Hannover, Germany last month. The company also displayed diverse cutting-edge RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) equipment in last month's AIMEX (The 17th Industrial Automation, Instrumentation & Measurement Exhibition) held in Seoul. Ceyon is now concentrating the company's efforts even more on developing applications which can be utilized by using RFID.
In particular, the company attracted associated business circles' attention by opening its "Nextgeneration Ubiquitous Laboratory" in February this year with a view to carrying out various R&D in relation to RFID/USN and research related to its commercialization. Due to its increasing business contacts at home and abroad, Ceyon is preparing stepping stones to develop as one of the five largest RFID/USN companies globally in the coming years, the company's CEO and president Sohn Young-Jeon disclosed in a special interview with the Korea IT Times. In fact, Ceyon Technology is being watched with interest by relevant business circles at home and abroad as it develops highgrade RFID products with purely domestic technology. This is being achieved despite circumstances where hardware business circles are not performing as well as expected even though government-led model projects are brisk in conjunction with RFID. Since the company had developed PDA-type RFID readers for the first time for itself in 2002, Ceyon had secured products and the core technology by frequency band such as 125KHz, 134.2KHz, 13.56MHz, and 900MHz, Sohn pointed out in the interview. After the firm's business began in earnest in 2003 with a revenue of 1 billion won (around $1.03 million), Ceyon is expecting to accomplish its revenue of about 8 billion won (around $8.2 million) this year, an eight-fold increase after just four years, and has exported RFID readers to Chile and China as well last year, he added. Concerning its business direction in the coming months, Sohn says that Ceyon will concentrate its efforts on logistics, circulation, factory automation, and access control side, with many interests. Especially, with the establishment of its Nextgeneration Ubiquitous Laboratory as an impetus, he said that Ceyon would like to present its business model through Ubiquitous environment's core element analysis and application example's review, such as RTLS - not to mention its hardware development of 900MHz band and 2.45GHz band. Its Next-generation Ubiquitous Laboratory is expected to carry out a leading role, not only in the RFID field, but also in USN (Ubiquitous Sensor Network) field and further in the Ubiquitous environment by broadening its scope, according to Sohn. CEO Sohn who stressed that Ceyon's business fields such as factory automation, access control, circulation/logistics management, stock/asset management, location management, and electronic settlement have been winning the confidence of a number of clients thanks to its high-grade RFID products, proudly mentioned that the company's high quality products can be found in Hynix semiconductor, LG Philips LCD, Samsung Electronics, BOE Hydis in the field of semiconductor and in the Ministry of Information & Communication, the Korea Highway Corporation, The Ministry of Construction & Transportation, and in the Supreme Prosecutor's Office in the field of general business. It is also increasing its overseas business sites such as Taiwan's Spirox, India's Scat Tech, Malaysia's Mywarisan, Japan's Murata, and the American e-Cardnet.
