SEOUL, KOREA – Import car sales continued to rise in Korea, with the new registration number of import cars reaching an all-time high last month. According to the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA), the monthly sales of import cars in Korea passed the 12,000 mark for three straight months.
The number of import cars sold in Korea last month totaled 12,470 units, exceeding the previous record of 12,123 units set in September 2012. The November figure was up 3.8 percent from a month ago, and up 35.1 percent from a year earlier.
For January-September period of this year, the cumulative sales of import cars in Korea reached 120,195 units, up 23.7 percent year-on-year.
By brand, BMW was sold 2,703 last month, followed by Volkswagen (2,022), Mercedes Benz (1,867), Audi (1,405), Toyota (935), Mini (673), Lexus (616), Ford (563), Chrysler (357), and Nissan (293).
