SK Group has joined forces with the U.S. Carlyle Group, one of the world's largest private equity firms, for global investment. The Korean company said on December 9 that senior vice chairman Choi Jae-Won has met Carlyle managing director Rodney S. Cohen in the latter's New York office to sign the strategic alliance agreement.
The latest deal has attracted attention as it is a marriage between a company aggressively making global investments jointly with the Korea Pension Service and an asset management firm with more than US$150-billion assets under management.
The two companies expect they will benefit from the synergies as SK Group is in possession of know-how and experience in the energy and info-tech industries while Carlyle has more than 600 investment specialists with a variety of know-how in investment vehicles.
Separately, SK Group has strengthened its relationships with Turkey's Dogus Group and Colombia's Grupo Aval to create joint investment funds.
