SEOUL, KOREA – Samsung Life has joined with UBS Global Asset Management of Switzerland to expand into the private banking business. Samsung Life vice chairman Park Keun-Hee met with Kai Sotorp, head of UBS Global Asset Management Asia-Pacific, at its Samsung Family Office in Gangnam on December 13 and signed a strategic alliance agreement.
Samsung Family Office is an organization within Samsung Life serving exclusively for high-income earners.
In partnership with UBS Global, Samsung Life will introduce to its customers with net assets of more than 1 billion won overseas investment products and create high-return asset portfolios for them.
Yoon Tae-Gyeong, executive with Samsung Family Office, said, "Under situation where financial uncertainties still linger, investors are having difficulty where to park their money. We believe there is a pent-up demand for alternative investment avenues and that's why we made a strategic alliance deal with UBS Global Asset Management that has strengths in alternative investment and asset distribution.

삼성생명, UBS와 손잡았다
삼성생명이 스위스 UBS글로벌자산운용과 손잡고 국내 부유층 공략에 나선다. 해외 대안투자 상품을 소개해 시중은행들의 프라이빗뱅킹(PB) 확대 공세에 맞서겠다는 전략이다.
박근희 삼성생명 부회장(사진 오른쪽)은 13일 서울 역삼동 삼성패밀리오피스 빌딩에서 카이 소토프 UBS글로벌자산운용A&Q 아시아 대표와 전략적 제휴를 위한 양해각서(MOU)를 맺었다. 삼성패밀리오피스는 삼성생명 내에서 초부유층 자산만을 전담 관리하는 조직이다.
삼성생명은 우선 현금성 자산을 10억원 이상 갖고 있는 자사 고객들에게 해외 대안투자 상품들을 소개하는 한편 수익성 높은 자산 포트폴리오를 짜주기로 했다. 선진국에선 대안투자 상품이 부유층 자산에서 10% 정도 차지하는데, 국내에선 미미한 수준에 불과하다는 게 삼성생명 측 설명이다.
윤태경 삼성패밀리오피스 상무는 “금융시장의 불확실성이 높아지고 있는 가운데 국내외 금리는 더욱 떨어지고 있어 자산가들이 어려움을 겪고 있다”며 “대체투자에 대한 수요가 커졌다는 판단에 따라 대안투자 및 자산배분 상품에 강점이 있는 UBS글로벌자산운용과 제휴를 맺은 것”이라고 말했다.
