SEOUL, KOREA – Muhak announced on December 27 that it will raise the price of soju, Korea's traditional distilled liquor, by 8.5 percent with effect from the shipments scheduled on January 2 next year.
Accordingly, the factory prices of “Good Day” will be increased by 77 won to 950 won from 875 won. The hike came in just one week since Hite Jinro, the nation's No. 1 Soju producer, raised price by 8.19 percent on December 20.
From next year, Muhak, which holds superior market share in port city of Busan and South Gyeongsang Province, will enter the Seoul market to compete against Hite Jinro and Lotte Chilsung, the second top player.

무학, 소주값 8.5% 인상
소주업계 3위 무학이 내년 1월2일 출고분부터 소주 가격을 인상한다.
27일 주류·유통업계에 따르면 무학은 주류 도매상에 소주 ‘좋은데이(360㎖)’ 출고가격을 8.57% 올리겠다고 통보했다. 좋은데이의 출고가격은 기존 875원에서 950원으로 75원 오른다. ‘화이트’ 출고가격은 900원에서 970원으로 7.8% 인상된다. 좋은데이 페트병(360㎖) 가격도 945원에서 1020원으로 조정된다.
무학의 가격인상 결정은 소주업계 1위인 하이트진로가 지난 20일 ‘참이슬’ 가격을 8.19% 인상한 이후 1주일 만이다. 이에 따라 주류업계에서는 업계 2위인 롯데주류도 ‘처음처럼’ 가격을 연내에 올릴 것으로 관측하고 있다.
