SEOUL, KOREA - A forecast said Chinese suppliers will account for more than 60 percent of the smartphones sold outside China by 2016. On December 30, Gartner Inc., the U.S. IT research and advisory company, said that Chinese companies would take a 60.8-percent share in the global smartphone market by exporting 327 million devices in four years.
Given last year's smartphone export numbers were 10,105,000 (global market share of 20.6%), Chinese smartphone makers would make an annual average growth rate of 100 percent for four years. But Gartner predicted the share of Chinese suppliers within the home market would decline to 39.2 percent from current 70 percent.
The Chinese smartphone manufaturing industry will improve qualitatively too. Gartner said Chinese companies would raise the portion of high-priced feature-rich smartphones for the same period.
The percentage of high-priced smartphones (those over US$150) exported by Chinese manufacturers last year was only 1 percent (3,556,000 units). But that ratio would reach as high as 21.4 percent by 2016, the research firm said.

중국업체들이 4년 뒤 중국 이외의 국가에서 팔리는 스마트폰의 60%를 차지할 것이라는 전망이 나왔다.
30일 시장조사기관 가트너는 중국업체들이 2016년 스마트폰 총 3억2723만대를 수출해 중국 제외한 전 세계 시장점유율 60.8%를 기록할 것으로 내다봤다.
중국업체의 스마트폰 수출량이 지난해 1010만5000대(점유율 20.6%)에서 연평균 100% 성장할 것이라는 뜻.
다만 중국업체들의 내수 시장점유율은 지난해 70%대에서 2016년 39.2%로 낮아질 것으로 내다봤다.
중국 스마트폰 산업은 질적인 면에서도 크게 성장할 것으로 가트너는 예상했다. 저가형 제품에 주력한 지금까지와 달리 앞으로는 고급 제품 생산량도 늘릴 것이라는 예측이다.
지난해 중국 업체들이 생산한 고급 스마트폰(가격 150달러 초과)은 355만6000대로 전 세계 고급 스마트폰 생산량의 1% 수준에 그쳤지만 2016년에는 21.4%에 달할 것으로 보인다.
