SEOUL, KOREA - Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors held a kick-off ceremony for the year 2013 at its Yangje headquarters building on January 2 and resolved to achieve sales of 7.41 million units worldwide this year.
In his New Year’s address, Chung Mong-Koo, the chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, said, “To achieve this goal, we need to build an organic cooperation system among globalized units. Also needed is to cope actively with the changing market conditions.”
Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors sold 7.12 million cars worldwide last year, up about 8 percent from a year ago. The two companies set this year’s global sales target at 7.41 million units, 4 percent higher than a year before.
The group picked “brand innovation through quality” as this year’s main slogan to strengthen its management. It plans to increase R&D investment in the areas of environment-friendly vehicles and electronic control, while focusing more on securing technological competitiveness through an intensive cultivation of talents.

현대·기아차, 새해 시무식서 741만대 판매목표
정몽구 회장, '품질 통한 브랜드 혁신' 주문
현대·기아자동차가 2일 양재동 본사에서 시무식을 열어 전 세계 741만대 생산·판매를 결의했다.
정몽구 회장은 신년사에서 "올해 목표인 741만대 생산·판매를 달성하기 위해선 글로벌화 된 조직간 유기적인 협조체제를 구축해야 한다"며 "시장의 변화에 능동적으로 대응해 나가자"고 주문했다.
현대·기아차는 지난해 국내외 시장에서 전년보다 약 8% 성장한 총 712만대를 판매했다. 올해는 전년 대비 4% 성장한 741만대 판매 계획을 세웠다.
현대·기아차는 새해 '품질을 통한 브랜드 혁신'을 경영 강화의 주요 과제로 꼽았다. 정 회장은 "그동안 품질은 고객 최우선의 중심에 자리해 왔다" 며 "고객에게 만족과 감동을 제공해 브랜드에 대한 자부심을 느낄 수 있도록 해야 한다"고 당부했다.
현대차그룹은 올해 친환경차 및 전자제어 분야에 대한 연구개발 투자를 늘리고 우수 인재를 집중 육성함으로써 지속적인 기술 경쟁력 확보에 주력한다는 방침이다.
