SEOUL, KOREA - Ssangyong Motor announced on January 2 that it has sold 120,717 units worldwide last year, up 6.8 percent from a year ago.
Year-on-year, domestic sales grew by 23.4 percent to 47,700, while exports fell by 1.8 percent to 73,017 (including ones sold under CKD basis). Ssangyong’s exports to Russia stood at a record 32,328 last year, setting a new record for exports to a single country.
The Korando Sports overtook the Korando C, becoming the best-selling model at home with its 2012 sales estimated at 20,370, while the Korando C was most popular in overseas markets with its exports estimated at 32,975.
Last month’s sales amounted to 11,871, down 0.6 percent from a month ago but up 37 percent from a year before. Domestic sales grew by 21.8 percent to 5,365, while exports fell by 13.8 percent to 6,506.
A Ssangyong Motor official said, “Despite the global economic slowdown, we marked the highest growth in domestic sales among the automobile companies last year.”

쌍용차, 작년 판매 12만대 첫 돌파
내수 4만7700대, 수출 7만3017대
쌍용자동차는 지난해 전년 동기 대비 6.8% 증가한 12만717대를 판매했다고 2일 밝혔다.
내수 판매는 4만7700대로 지난해 같은 기간보다 23.4% 늘어났다. 수출 판매는 7만3017대(CKD 포함)로 작년보다 1.8% 감소했지만 러시아가 단일국가로는 처음으로 3만대를 돌파(3만2328대)하는 기록을 수립했다.
모델별로 국내에선 코란도스포츠(2만370대·사진)가 코란도C(1만6685대)를 제치고 가장 많이 팔렸다. 수출은 코란도C(3만2975대)가 가장 많이 판매됐다.
지난달 판매실적은 총 1만1871대로 전월 보다 0.6% 줄었지만 지난해 같은 기간보다는 37% 증가했다. 내수 판매는 5365대로 전월 보다 21.8% 증가했으나 수출 판매는 6506대로 13.8% 감소했다.
이유일 쌍용차 대표이사는 "글로벌 경기 침체에도 불구 내수에서 업계 최대 성장률을 기록하며 판매목표를 달성했다"며 "지속적인 상품성 개선모델 출시와 차별화된 마케팅 전략을 통해 글로벌 판매를 더욱 확대해 나갈 것"이라고 말했다.
