The project calls for building a petrochemical plant with a capacity of producing 350,000 tons of butanols per year and 28,400 square meters of compound gases per hour. The construction site is within the Al-Jubail industrial complex in the eastern part of Saudi Arabia.
The construction is scheduled to be completed by May 2015. Within the next six months, Daelim will shift the contract into a turnkey one covering the entire process of design, procurement and construction.
Butanol is a high value-added petrochemical material made from compound gases. Butanol Co. is a joint venture established by Saudi Arabia’s state-run petrochemical company Saudi Kayan and a private petrochemical company Sahara.

대림산업, 사우디 3억弗 유화플랜트 수주…2015년 5월께 준공
대림산업은 사우디아라비아 부탄올사가 발주한 ‘알 주베일 석유화학 플랜트 건설 공사’를 2억9487만달러(3134억원)에 수주했다고 10일 발표했다.
이번 프로젝트는 연간 35만t 규모의 부탄올과 시간당 2만8400㎥의 합성가스를 생산할 수 있는 석유화학 공장을 건설하는 것이다. 공사현장은 사우디아라비아 동부 알 주베일(Al-Jubail) 공단 내에 있다. 공사 기간은 총 28개월로 2015년 5월 준공 예정이다. 대림산업은 6개월 내 설계 및 기자재 구매, 시공까지 책임지는 일괄도급(턴키) 방식으로 계약을 전환한다.
합성가스에서 생산되는 부탄올은 의약품 아세트산 도로용제 등에 사용되는 고부가가치 석유화학 제품이다. 발주처인 부탄올사는 사우디 국영 석유회사인 사우디카얀, 민간석유화학업체인 사하라 등이 합작한 법인이다.
이번 수주는 대림산업이 사우디아라비아 메이저 발주처로부터 사업수행 능력과 기술력을 인정받은 결과라는 평가다. 사우디아라비아는 세계 최대의 플랜트 발주시장인 만큼 가장 엄격하고 까다로운 공정관리 및 공사 자격요건을 요구한다. 대림산업은 이번 프로젝트를 포함, 사우디에서만 총 75억달러 규모의 10개 프로젝트 공사를 진행하고 있다.
이철균 대림산업 사장은 “발주처와 공종(공사종류)을 다변화해 석유화학 플랜트 분야에서 경쟁력을 더욱 강화하겠다”고 말했다.
