SHANGHAI, CHINA - Yuhan-Kimberly, a consumer goods company jointly established by Kimberly-Clark and Yuhan Corp., said on January 22 that it has exported 200 billion won worth of diapers alone last year. This is 73 percent of all exports of 273.8 billion won.
Most of the sales were made to China. According to market research firm ACNielsen, diapers from Yuhan-Kimberly accounted for 65 percent of the premium diaper market in Beijing and Shanghai.
The company recorded 273.8 billion won in exports in such items as Huggies diapers, White sanitary pads, industrial-use masks, and non-woven fabrics. This is an 18-percent increase from the previous year.
A Yuhan-Kimberly official said, "The ratio of families using paper-based diapers in China will rise up to 60 percent by 2020 from 29.6 percent in 2010 [KOTRA Qingdao estimates]. Since late last year, we started exporting Depend-style adult diapers [for protection from incontinence] to Australiia and plan to expand the destinations."

유한킴벌리, 지난해 기저귀 수출액 2000억원 돌파
생활용품 전문기업 유한킴벌리는 지난해 기저귀로만 전체 수출액의 73%인 2000억원어치를 수출했다고 22일 발표했다. 중국 베이징과 상해에서 프리미엄 기저귀 시장 점유율 65%(AC닐슨)를 넘는 등 중국 시장에서 선전한 것이 주효했다는 분석이다.
유한킴벌리는 지난해 하기스 기저귀, 화이트 생리대, 산업용 마스크, 부직포 등으로 수출 2738억원을 달성했다. 이는 전년 대비 18% 증가한 수치로, 전체 매출에서 차지하는 비중이 19.4%나 된다. 수출을 처음 시작한 2004년엔 407억원으로 전체 매출에서 차지하는 비중이 5.6%였다. 특히 중국과 홍콩, 호주, 러시아, 대만 등 5개 국가에 수출하는 비중이 전체 수출액의 80%를 차지했다.
유한킴벌리 관계자는 “중국의 기저귀 사용률이 2010년 기준 29.6%로 2020년엔 60%(코트라 칭다오무역관)까지 증가할 것으로 전망된다”며 “지난해 연말부터 디펜드 스타일 팬티(요실금 팬티)를 호주에 수출하기 시작했고 다른 나라에도 본격적으로 수출할 예정”이라고 말했다.
