Ambassador Group The Ambassador Hotel Group (Chairman Suh, Jung-Ho) first began its operations in 1955 as a small inn. In 1989, it formed an alliance with the International French hospitality group, Accor, opening the doors of its hotel under the new image of Sofitel Ambassador. Ambassador hotels are in the business corners of Seoul. In the North (Sofitel Ambassador and Ibis Myeong-dong), South (Novotel Ambassador Gangnam), West of the river (Novotel Ambassador Doksan) and by COEX, the World Trade Center (Ibis Seoul). In September 1993, Novotel Ambassador Gangnam, located in the affluent area of Gangnam-gu Yeoksamdong, was the first joint-venture between the Accor group and Ambassadors. With 17 floors above ground, 6 floors below ground, this hotel has 336 rooms. Shortly thereafter, in September of 1997, the second joint-venture between the Accor group began its operations in the commercial district of Kumchon-gu Doksan-dong, near the area of Shihung. With 14 floors above ground and 5 floors underground, this 230 room deluxe hotel was respectively named, Novotel Ambassador Doksan. Seoul's Ambassador Hotels are renowned for their affordable prices, world-class facilities, and friendly service. One of the newest members of the Ambassador Group is Ibis Seoul, located in Gangnam-gu Daechi-dong, close to COEX, the World Trade Center. In 2003 Ibis Seoul was launched as the first international economy hotel brand in Korea. In 2006 one more Ibis launched in Seoul, in Myung-dong downtown, named as Ibis Myeong-Dong. The Novotel Ambassador Gangnam is operated using the international Novotel standards and managed by an experienced foreign general manager and a few of foreign managers appointed by the Accor Group. Novotel Ambassador Doksan, the second joint-venture deluxe hotel formed by the Ambassador and Accor opened in September 1997. 1997 was a very tumultuous and difficult time in the hotel industry and was even more dangerous to open a brand new hotel due to the national feeling of unrest and depression stemming from the IMF financial crisis that struck Korea. However, Novotel Ambassador Doksan located in the new business and commercial district of Geumcheongu, Seoul was fortunate and became successful through this difficult time in Korean history. Finally, Ibis Seoul located in Daechidong near the Posco Center became the third joint-venture between France's Accor and Korea's Ambassador Group in October 2003. In early May of 2006, one more Ibis launched in Myeong-dong downtown of Seoul. In total, the Accor Group of France is thriving in Korea with the operation of 5 hotels. Ibis Myeong-Dong Another New Ibis hotel, Ibis Myeong-dong opened on May 2006 in downtown.
