SEOUL, KOREA - This year will see more than ten mega-deals whose transaction value surpasses 1 trillion won. According to a survey on 64 investment bankers in celebration of the first anniversary for "Market Insight," the information service on the capital market provided by the Korea Economic Daily, there would be at least eleven 1-trillion-won mega-deals within this year. The aggregate amount of the deals is estimated at 40 trillion won.
One of the likeliest deals was Woori Financial Group. As much as 20.4 percent of respondents said Woori Financial Group will succeed in selling itself during the first year of the new administration. The respondents said Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (16.1%) and Korea Aerospace Industries (11.8%) are the next likeliest targets.
Other private equity fund-owned companies such as Oriental Brewery, C&M, and Halla Climate Control Corp. will be likely targets of mergers and acquisitions, given most private equity funds sell off their properties four to five years after investment.
