SEOUL, KOREA - TV shopping channel operator CJ O Shopping will air a segment on fair trade goods from 12:50 am on February 11. The program will feature "Equal Americano," the brand of Fair Trade Beautiful Coffee.
Established in 2002, Beautiful Coffee is one of the largest fair trade goods purveyors in Korea, buying coffee beans from small, family-farm growers at minimum guaranteed prices. The social enterprise also support coffee growing communities with community development funds and administer training.
CJ O Shopping will present two types of organic 100% Arabica instant coffee varieties, Equal Americano Black and Equal Americano Sweet. Both varieties are sold in a package with 100 packets at 35,000 won. All buyers of the fair trade coffee will receive two fair trade chocolate bars and a mug with the Beautiful Coffee logo.
All beans used in the Equal Americano coffees have come from producers' cooperatives in Peru, Uganda, Colombia, and Papua New Guinea.
Lee Jung-min, the merchandiser at CJ O Shopping who has sourced the coffee beans, said, "The upcoming Beautiful Coffee program will be a great chance to help out Third World farmers without making donations. This is an excellent way to consume high-quality goods while doing good."
