SEOUL, KOREA – Smart watches are pouring in. High-tech wearable devices, which make sure people never miss important calls and text messages or other notifications like Twitter feeds by connecting to Android smartphones, are basking in great attention.

Edam Information & Communications Co. has launched “Watchdog,” a smart watch that sends emergency text messages to five designated phone numbers in case of emergency.  Sony Korea has also officially released the Sony Smartwatch that was first disclosed at the CES 2012 while Expansys Korea has embarked on the sale of the i’m Watch, an Android-based smart watch packed with a 1.54 inch TFT display and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi functions. Besides, it has been rumored that Apple has teamed up with Intel to develop a smart watch. As such, competition in the smart watch market stands to heighten.

Leveraging Bluetooth pairing with a smartphone, Edam Information & Communications’ Watchdog allows wearers to check incoming calls and text messages and reply with ready-made SMS templates. On top of that, Watchdog wearers can connect to KakaoTalk, Facebook and Twitter.

The Sony Smartwatch, which comes with a multi-touch screen and a music player control function, is capable of alerting watch wearers to incoming calls, text messages, e-mail and SNS notifications in real time.
