Seoul, Korea - Many securities analysts are rushing to give reports that anticipates LG Electronics’ robust smartphone sales this year. Many of them predicted the handset maker will easily achieve this year’s goal of selling 40 million sets. The analysts predominantly agree that LG is waking up from the long slumber and its sales started to turn around.
SH Lee of Taurus Investment & Securities commented, “with the expansion of its smartphone lineup into G, F and L series, LG will enjoy both qualitative and quantitative growth of its Mobile Communication Division. LG will be able to secure a solid leadership in the 2nd tier, chasing Samsung and Apple.”
Lee anticipated that LG will sell more than 40 million smartphones this year - LG is gradually increasing its market share as it delivers more smartphones to the market while the market shares of its 2nd tier peers are sliding.
“I have increased LG’s expected annual smartphone sales by 10%. The upturn this time is different from a temporary get-out-from-the-red during the 1st quarter last year,” said Lee.
Meanwhile, the trade insiders have anticipated LG may be able to mark a record quarterly sales of more than 10 million smartphones during the 1st quarter this year.

LG전자 스마트폰 판매가 호조를 보일 것이라는 증권사 전망이 쏟아졌다.
올해 목표치인 4000만대 판매가 무난할 것으로 전망됐다. LG전자가 장기 부진의 늪을 벗어나 본격적인 턴어라운드에 나섰다는 분석이 지배적이다.
이성희 토러스투자증권 연구원은 5일 “LG전자가 G, F, L시리즈의 제품 라인업 확대로 모바일커뮤니케이션(MC) 사업부의 질적, 양적 성장이 기대된다”며 “삼성전자와 애플에 이어 2위군 업체로서 확실하게 자리매김할 것”이라고 전망했다.
이 연구원은 “2위군 경쟁업체들의 점유율 하락 속에 LG전자는 스마트폰 출하량을 늘리며 시장점유율이 점진적으로 상승해 올해 4000만대 이상을 판매할 것”이라고 전망했다.
박종석 MC사업본부장이 지난주 모바일 월드 콩그레스(MWC 2013)에서 제시한 4000만대 판매 목표치 달성이 가능할 것이라는 전망이다.
그는 휴대폰 사업부문의 본격적인 턴어라운드에 힘입어 투자의견을 매수로, 목표주가를 10만원으로 제시했다.
이승혁 한국투자증권 연구원은 “LG전자의 1분기 스마트폰 판매가 예상보다 호조를 보여 스마트폰 연간 판매대수를 10% 상향조정했다”며 “작년 1분기 일시적인 흑자전환 때와는 다른 현상을 보이고 있다”고 진단했다.
이 연구원은 “작년 1분기에는 삼성, 애플, HTC라는 강력한 경쟁자들이 존재했지만 지금은 애플과 HTC가 부진해 LG전자에 새로운 기회가 생겼다”며 “스마트폰 출하대수가 증가 추세고 마케팅 비용도 적극적으로 지출하는 상황에서 수익성 개선이 나타나고 있다”고 설명했다.
이 연구원은 “LG전자의 휴대전화 부문의 예상 영업이익을 37% 상향조정했다”며 이에 따라 목표주가도 9만원에서 11만원으로 올렸다.
업계에서는 LG전자가 이르면 올 1분기 분기 사상 처음으로 스마트폰 1000만대 판매 돌파를 달성할 것으로 예상한다.
