SEOUL, KOREA – On Thursday, Seoul Semiconductor, a Korean company manufacturing LED devices, said it has launched a new side view LED package with 8.8㏐in light speed, the highest in the world, in a bid to respond to the expansion of the smart device market.
Its side view LED package is designed to serve as BLUs (back light units) mainly for smartphones and smart pads. The Side View LED package, 0.6㎜ in thickness, can further enhance screen brightness while cutting energy consumption. Seoul Semiconductor has also decided to apply high-speed, energy-saving technologies to its existing 0.8㎜, 0.4㎜ models.
Back in 2002, Seoul Semiconductor released its first 1mm side view LED package. Since then, it has supplied 0.8㎜, 0.6㎜, 0.5㎜ packages to global companies and it also successfully developed a 0.3㎜ model.
“We will continue to make responses to changes in the global smart device market and maintain a comparative advantage by rolling out thinner and brighter side view LED packages,” said Kwon Hyeok-won, Vice President of Seoul Semiconductor.

서울반도체, 세계 최고 광속 사이드뷰 LED 출시
서울반도체(대표 이정훈)는 스마트기기 시장 확대에 대응하고자 세계 최고수준 광속(8.8㏐) 사이드뷰 발광다이오드(LED) 패키지를 출시했다고 7일 밝혔다.
사이드뷰 LED 패키지는 주로 스마트폰•스마트패드의 백라이트유닛(BLU)용으로 사용된다. 이번 출시한 제품은 두께가 0.6㎜로 스마트기기의 화면 밝기를 높이고 에너지 소비는 줄일 수 있다. 기존 양산 중인 두께 0.8㎜, 0.4㎜ 제품에도 높은 광속•에너지효율 구현 기술을 적용하기로 했다.
서울반도체는 지난 2002년 처음 두께 1㎜의 사이드뷰 LED 패키지를 출시했다. 이후 0.8㎜, 0.6㎜, 0.5㎜ 제품을 세계 주요 업체에 공급했으며, 0.3㎜ 제품 개발에도 성공했다.
