SEOUL, KOREA – LG Electronics swept this year’s Red Dot design award, regarded as one of the highest accolades in the world of design. LG Electronics said Wednesday it picked up a total of 27 Red Dot awards, with its world-first curved OLED TV winning the top honor “Best of the Best.” The Korean electronics giant garnered 14 Red Dot awards in 2012.
The German Red Dot Design Award is one the world’s top three design honors along with the iF (International Forum) Product Design Awards and the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) in North America. This year, 4,662 entries from 1,865 manufacturers competed fiercely against one another.
LG’s other 24 winners include the full HD smartphone “Optimus G Pro,” the LG 100-inch screen “Cinema Beam TV,” the world’s smallest mobile photo printer “Pocket Photo,” the LG multi-touch monitor for Windows 8, the LG ultra-slim sound bar and the latest side-by-side refrigerator with a Door-in-Door system.

LG전자는 전략 가전제품들로 세계적 디자인상인 `2013 레드닷 디자인 어워드`에서 대상 1개를 포함해 총 27개의 상을 받았다고 13일 밝혔다. 지난해 14개의 상을 받았던 데 비해 수상 제품이 두배 가까이 늘었다.
독일 레드닷 디자인상은 iF 디자인상, IDEA 디자인상과 함께 세계 3대 디자인상으로 손꼽힌다. 올해는 54개국 1865개 기업이 4662개 제품을 출품해 치열한 경합을 벌였다.
세계 최초로 오목하게 휘어진 곡면 스크린을 적용한 LG전자의 `곡면(Curved) OLED TV`가 영예의 대상을 받았다.
또 고품격 미니멀 디자인에 풀HD의 생동감을 더한 `옵티머스G 프로`를 비롯해 100인치 초대형 화면 `시네마 빔 TV`, 세계 최소형 모바일 포토프린터 `포켓포토`, 초슬림 디자인 `사운드바`, 윈도8에 최적화한 `멀티터치 모니터`, 스페이스를 적용한 양문형 냉장고, 매장 인테리어에 최적화한 상업용 중대형 에어컨 등 총 24개 제품이 본상을 수상했다.
이밖에 인체공학적 `매직리모콘`을 포함한 `시네마 3D 스마트 TV`, 삼각대 없이도 천정 투사 가능한 스탠드형 휴대용 프로젝터가 명예상을 받았다.
