SEOUL, KOREA – Plagiarism detection tool “Copy Killer,” which is used to discover plagiarism in reports and dissertations written by students, is catching on across college campuses.Sogang University, Chonbuk National University and Dongguk University have decided to adopt “Copy Killer” from the first semester of this year. Accordingly, all the documents written by their students can be easily put under the microscope.
Once this system is set up, it will automatically confirm how much the report writer commits plagiarism by comparing the report with internal databases, online contents and reports written by other students. Copy Killer will offer professors a detailed result of its plagiarism scanning, including the degree of online content plagiarism and peer-to-peer plagiarism, to help them make fair evaluations.
Not only professors but also students and other faculty members can use this service simply by logging onto “Copy Killer Campus.” (campus.copykiller.co.kr).
Since the launch of Copy Killer, nearly 40,000 people have signed up for this service. POSTECH, Kyung Hee University, Ewha Womans University and Sookmyung Women's University already adopted Copy Killer last year.

서강대, 전북대, 동국대 표절검사 서비스 카피킬러 도입
보고서•논문 표절을 검사할 수 있는 `카피킬러` 인기가 급상승 중이다.
신학기를 맞아 서강대•전북대•동국대학교는 카피킬러를 도입하기로 했다. 교내에서 작성되는 모든 문서에 사전 표절 검사가 가능하게 됐다.
시스템이 구축되면서 마감과 동시에 학교 내부 DB자료, 인터넷 콘텐츠, 동일 과제 학생 간 비교를 거쳐 표절 비율이 자동 산출된다. 교수는 교내와 인터넷 표절 정도를 확인하고 상세한 표절 결과를 제공받아 객관적이고 공정한 평가에 도움을 받을 수 있다.
평가자뿐만 아니라 학생과 직원을 비롯한 교내 사용자도 대학별 표절검사 사이트인 `카피킬러 캠퍼스`(campus.copykiller.co.kr)에 직접 접속해 개별적으로 올린 파일의 표절검사를 수행할 수 있다. 대학교 이메일 계정으로 간단한 인증절차만 거치면 누구나 자유롭게 이용 가능하다. 과제물뿐만 아니라 논문 작성, 취업 준비를 위한 자기소개서 등도 검색해 볼 수 있다.
표절검사시스템 카피킬러는 서비스 출시 이후 4만명이 가입했으며 보급이 최근 크게 늘고 있다. 지난해에는 경희대, 포항공대, 숙명여대, 이화여대 등에서 도입했다.
김희수 무하유 이사는 “교육계를 넘어 사회 전반에서 표절 우려가 큰 만큼 텍스트가 존재하는 모든 영역에 정확하고 빠른 표절 검사 서비스를 도입해야 한다”고 말했다.
