SEOUL, KOREA – Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) said Sunday AMGA, a metadata management program developed by KISTI, has been listed on the EU’s top three middleware software sites – SciencePAD, EGI(European Grid Initiative) UMD(Unified Middleware Distribution) and EMI-3(European Middleware Initiative).
Metadata management software is designed to efficiently manage summaries of experiment data stored in geographically separated data centers. Thus, it contributes to enhancing the efficiency of research activities by giving researchers unbridled access to resources such as research equipment and information anywhere anytime.
AMGA, which was downloaded nearly 530 times in 2012 alone, is now heavily adopted by the World Community Grid (WCG) - an effort to create the world's largest public computing grid to tackle scientific research projects. In particular, AMGA is efficiently used for researches related to high energy physics that produces a tremendous amount of data by using linear accelerators.
With AMGA being recognized abroad, KISTI is planning on the technology transfer of AMGA.

KISTI 개발 소프트웨어, 유럽 3대 미들웨어 SW 사이트에 등재
한국과학기술정보연구원(KISTI)은 요약정보(메타데이터) 관리소프트웨어(SW)인 AMGA가 유럽 3대 미들웨어SW 사이트에 등재됐다고 17일 밝혔다.
메타데이터 관리SW는 지리적으로 여러 저장소에 분산•저장된 실험데이터의 요약정보를 효율적으로 관리하는 프로그램이다. 연구자가 시간과 공간 제약 없이 연구 장비와 정보 등의 자원을 자유롭게 공유하며 연구 효율을 높이는 데 쓰인다.
AMGA는 작년 한 해 신규 서비스 설치 26건, 다운로드 건수 530여건을 기록하는 등 국제 그리드 커뮤니티에서 널리 쓰이는 공개 SW다. 특히 우주 생성원리를 밝혀내기 위해 가속기를 이용해 엄청난 양의 데이터를 생산하는 고에너지물리 분야에 효율적으로 사용된다.
일본 KEK 컴퓨팅센터가 2015년 본격 가동할 일본 고에너지가속기연구소 차세대 B물리 실험 가속기(Belle Ⅱ) 실험의 메타데이터 카탈로그 SW 솔루션으로 설치, 운영 중이다. 또 유럽에서 알츠하이머병 진단 프로젝트(DECIDE), 그리드 기반 환경 구축 프로젝트(EUMEDGrid) 등 다수 프로젝트의 메타데이터 관리에 사용된다. 황순욱 KISTI 슈퍼컴퓨팅기술개발실장은 “최근 개발한 AMGA 2.4.0은 기존 레드햇 계열뿐 아니라 데비안 운용체계도 추가 지원해 사용자 커뮤니티가 더욱 넓어질 것”이라고 밝혔다.
KISTI는 국제 공신력을 바탕으로 올해 AMGA 기술 이전을 추진 중이다. 4월 발족할 유럽 미들웨어 협의체(EMCG) 창립 멤버 참여도 예상됐다.
